How to move an account from one group to another? (Q Mac)
Using Quicken Classic Deluxe ver. 8.3.2 on a Mac. I use Quicken only to track investments and other assets. In the left hand listing of groups and accounts, I want to move one account ("Savings" in the group "Brokerage") to another group, "Property & Debt". Every search for help with this starts with "Choose the "Tools" menu and…". However, I do not see any "Tools" entry in the menubar. Some help topics also mention making a selection from an "Intent" menu, but I do not see that menu anywhere.
If I right click on an account name and choose "Account Settings" for the Savings account (in the Brokerage group), I see the "Type" as "Other Investment", with no other choices that would be appropriate. However, if I right click on an account that is already in the Property & Debt group and choose "Account Settings", I see a completely different set of choices for "Type", including "Savings".

You cannot move accounts from one group/subgroup to another.
This is something users have long requested. The developers have indicated such a change is significantly complex under the hood, and it's not clear if or when such capability will be be added. Here is the Idea thread and the latest Status update from the developers:

Thanks to "Jacobs" for the answer, even though it is disappointing. I remain a bit confused by the official Quicken help articles that say you can move accounts between groups, and start with the advice to go to the "Tools" menu. One such Quicken help article says specifically "For example, if you think of your credit card as a liability, you can move it out of the Banking group and into the Property & Debt group."
Is this something that is available only in the Windows version of Quicken Classic, and not on the Mac?

The reason you are confused is because that is for Quicken Windows, which does have that feature. It all too easy to get directed to the wrong webpages.

Quicken Windows and Quicken Mac do some things completely identically, some things relatively similarly, and some things very differently. Over time, Quicken Mac generally edges closer to Quicken Windows. But sometimes the "Mac way" is a re-thinking of how Quicken should work, and is an improvement rather than a regression, so things likely won't change. In terms of the left sidebar, Quicken Mac doesn't (yet) offer the flexibility of Quicken Windows. The Mac developers just recently added the ability to reorder accounts within a group, but allowing users to move accounts between groups and create custom groups has under-the-hood complexity and has not yet been built; if or when it will be is anyone's guess.

@jacobs That is a good point about the complexity. At least how Quicken Windows implemented this. In Quicken Windows this isn't just moving the account to another group in the Account list.
It is actually changing the "Account Intent".
This has ramifications for reports and other places like in the portfolio view. And I might add that it doesn't work exactly right in all places.
