CSV File Import for Banking Transactions not working
I've been trying to import banking transactions for my credit card via the CSV import (File/File Import/Banking Transactions/From (.CSV) file…
I have formatted my CSV file exactly as it requests but I keep getting the pop-up window that states "File selected did not have the required format".
I have tried using the sample file that I can produce from the "Create Sample File" option, but even that file gets the same error.
Is this broken, or is there a trick to getting it to work?
Here are my version details (no newer versions are offered when I check for updates):
Quicken Classic Business & Personal
Version: R64.31
Build: 27.1.64.31
Edition: Canada
Thanks,
Joe

I cannot comment about the Canadian version, but I have imported 100s of transactions into the US version without issue. This is what my CSV file looks like, and after editing it you must save it as .csv. Hope this helps.
Adding: Instead of marking them as debit/credit, I used positive/negative values in the amount column. But I assume using the debit/credit field would work as well.

Thanks for the feedback. That's the same format that I'm using, which is the same format that Quicken's sample file uses. In any case, the import is not accepting it. The filename is a .csv, as well.
I noticed another discussion where the import wasn't working on the US version, but appears to have been fixed. Perhaps the Canadian version is still having an issue.
Hoping that someone from Quicken can reply with the status, or perhaps there's a Canadian user that is seeing the same issue.
Thanks,
Joe

Hello @JoeL.,
Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. I just tested in my Quicken Canada, version R64.31, and was able to import a CSV file without issue. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Does this happen only with credit card accounts, or does this happen no matter what kind of account you try to update? Would you please post a sample of the format you're using?
When I tested, I used the format below:
date,payee,Fipayee-unused,amount,debit/credit,category,account,tag,memo,chknum
01/01/13,My Payee,,10,,Health:Eyecare,Citibank Checking,,,I look forward to your reply!

Thank you Kristina. Your response helped me isolate the problem. It appears that the documentation in Quicken states that the dates must be in the format: mm/dd/yyyy. However, when using a date such as 11/01/2025, this appears to cause the error. I corrected the dates to be in the format: yy/mm/dd (e.g. 25/11/01 and then everything imported fine.
Here is the snippet from the product documentation:
Thank you for your help. Hopefully, the product documentation can be corrected/clarified so that other users don't encounter the same problem.

Maybe it honors the date format you have selected in Quicken, or perhaps the Windows date format.
What format does your version of Quicken use when displaying dates?

You may be right. My Windows and Quicken dates display in the format yyyy-mm-dd.
