I still use Quicken 2009 Premier

I like to buy the old software and use it without annual fees, unless I want to upgrade for newer features that have been added or bugs corrected. Other than the online stuff and app usage, what does Quicken Classic (most recent) give me that 2009 won't?

    Hello @QuickMule,

Thank you for reaching out! The primary things that the subscription version of Quicken gives you (aside from the online services) are tech support and updates/bug fixes.

Was there something specific about Quicken 2009 that is no longer meeting your needs?

If you're concerned that you'll eventually have to upgrade to an operating system in which Quicken 2009 no longer works, then you may find this earlier discussion helpful:

I look forward to your response!

    Thank you for your reply,

Since you are currently using Windows 8.1, I do not recommend upgrading to the subscription version of Quicken unless you plan to update your Windows operating system to Windows 10 or 11.

Our System Requirements specify that Quicken needs Windows 10 or 11 to function properly: https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-system-requirements/#section-windows-1 .

    I hope this helps!

You should at least try to convert to the 2013 version since you don’t use any online services or download transactions now. Starting in 2014 they instituted an ID password to get into your own data. I’m staying on 2013 on Windows 8.1. Then it should be more stable and run on newer computer systems. And 2013 runs on Windows 11.

You can download 2013 Deluxe directly from Quicken for free using this how to convert article. It’s under Converting from Quicken 2004-2009. Click on the blue words Quicken 2013 for Windows in step 3

FYI - All Quicken versions prior to QW2010 store your data in a series of files all sharing the same filename but with different extensions like - .IDX, .QEL, .QPH & .QDF, and all 4 of those files were rolled into a single-file .QDF in starting in 2010.

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

I will wait until I go to Windows 11 before going past QPwin 2009.

The one thing I liked about non sub installed software was I could upgrade say every 2 or 3 years (by buying a new software version). But if I did that with sub version, it would completely annoy me to no end regarding banners and renew your subscription reminders. A solution would be to offer customers a better priced 3 year subscription than a 1 year sub times 3, hint hint hint Quicken. I know you can do it.

In the middle of an ice storm with power and internet outages makes me thankful I have quicken installed software not something in the cloud or on an app or even needing an internet connection. Like Daffy Duck said, it's mine all mine, mine, mine, mine. :-)

I need to tinker more with the latest Quicken Classic to see what all has changed. Like for example, can you adjust the column widths in Quicken Classic w/sub? I can't do that in QPwin2009. Is there a historical record of what changed and when something like release notes but a list of changes, things simple such as color schemes, full customization of registers, printed reports, etc.

There are a few things that QP2009win won't do yes. But does the fact you have tech support mean you can get things fixed that are annoying in Qclassic sub or does your request just go into a black hole and never heard from again?

Did you see my post above about using Win 8.1? I’m still using Quicken 2013 on it. You can get 2013 Deluxe for free in the convert FAQ. I’ve used Quicken from the very beginning DOS days and really like Q 2013.

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

I saw your comment. But you didnt address my question about a sub providing "technical support" or are those words "technical support" just a slogan.

    Thank you for your reply,

With the subscription version of Quicken, you're able to reach out to support via phone or chat for assistance. Issues that can't be fixed on the call/chat and have to be escalated may take longer to resolve.

By contrast, the older, non-subscription versions of Quicken are no longer officially supported. Any bugs present do not get fixed. Quicken Support is not trained on those products and is unable to assist, but you can still reach out to the Community for assistance from other users.

    I hope this helps!

ok. Who owns Quicken now - it is no longer Intuit.

The new company is called Quicken Inc. Intuit sold it years ago. The only connection Intuit has to Quicken these days is Intuit is the "aggregator/financial institution connections" provider for Quicken Inc which they pay Intuit for that service.
