Citi Bank (Shell) card – Download Posting dates and Statements Posting dates are not the same.
The Background:
I use Windows Classic Business and Personal, always current. I have 7 vendors and 13 accounts which update daily @8am all of these vendors are paid thru PNC Bank's Bill Pay . This approach has been flawless for well over three decades.
My Issue:
The ‘Posting Date’ that Citi presents to Quicken does not match the dates in Citi Statements. This causes issues when manually reconciling the Quicken account. The reconcile page uses the falsely presented ‘Posting Date’.
I believe if Citi was honest about the non editable ‘Posting date’ presented to Quicken there would not be an issue reconciling the account.
The long-winded details:
I established a Citi Bank (Shell) card in May 2025. I had no issue adding the new account to Quicken.
The cycle:
There is a delay between when Citi is presented the check (as verified by PNC) and when Citi credits the funds. This started with the first cycle; the delay was 3 days. On the due date, I received a late charge through Quicken, even though Citi had received it 2 days prior to the due date (as verified by PNC). This resulted in multiple calls to both Citi and PNC, I eventually paid the bill thru the Citi portal. Two days later Citi credited my account with the PNC check.
This same cycle was repeated 5 times with delays of 3,2,8,18 and finally 46 days (I stopped payment on the last one and suspended the account. We will ignore the dozens of phone calls regarding the bogus charges..)
The cycle described above created the issue.
The Issue:
When Citi eventually presents the credit to Quicken it back dates the 'Posting Date'
On February 12th I went back to reconciled the account to paper statements (Something I rarely need to do) It did not go well. I had to enable the ‘Posting Date’ column to get a clue as to what was happening.
1) In each case Citi presented Quicken the payments with a ‘Posting date’ 1 day after the presentment date, even though in all cases the actual credit to the account was days or weeks later!
2) The Citi Statements reflected the actual dates the funds were Posted (or credited) to my account.
So: Citi presented Quicken with one Posting(or credit) date, and the Citi Statement had a different Posting (or credit) date. This mismatch creates an issue when trying to reconcile Quicken manually to the statement. What is presented in the Quicken manual reconcile screen is different than what is on the statement. This resulted in ‘Balance Adjustments’ each month. The balance adjustments zeroed out on the final statement.
My Conclusion
If Citi were honest about the non-editable ‘Posting date’ presented to Quicken, I suspect there would not be an issue. At any rate, I am done with Citi if they cannot credit my account in a timely manner.

Hello @DJW,
Thank you for sharing your experience. For assistance with this issue, I recommend that you contact Quicken Support directly. They have access to tools we don't have in the Community, can escalate the issue as needed, and will likely need to review the logs to confirm whether the issue is caused by the data Citi is sending. The Quicken Support phone number can be found through this link here. Phone support is available from 5:00 am PT to 5:00 pm PT, Monday through Friday.
I apologize that I could not be of more assistance!

Banks do tend to put a hold on deposits, 1, 2 or 3 business days.
My suggestion would be to- either change your PNC Bill Pay transaction's Due Date to send payment earlier, 2 or 3 business days before due date, to avoid late fees
- or, instead of using PNC Bill Pay, set up Autopay on the credit card's website, to make them pay the desired amount or full credit card balance automatically every month on or before due date as an ACH electronic debit, withdrawn directly from your PNC Checking account.
