I just want to add that this is a recurring problem with BECU. I don't know if it is always the same error, but I can say with certainty, that this happens at least a couple times a year. This is not acceptable behavior for an app like Quicken and I hope that in the future, knowing that this is a regularly problematic connection for Quicken, that the software testing people will verify that this connection works prior to every new release. I often hold off on updates because I don't want things to break. Grrrrr…

This seems to happen every year with BECU. Kind of frustrating. Last year they claimed their qfx server needed better security and was out for 6 weeks or so. When I call them, they are apologetic, but dont have any sort of idea when it will be fixed. Their response, you can sign onto their website and download the transactions. Yes, that does work, However I have 12 accounts with BECU including checking, savings, credit cards, CD's etc. Sorry BECU it's why I have quicken to do that for me. I work in it as well, and if my company's website didn't perform as it should, heads would start rolling

Here we go again, with Quicken and BECU pointing fingers at each other while BECU's one IT guy sits in the basement with a soft drink in his cargo shorts and T-shirt shrugging his shoulders at the mess until his shift is done. This is really unacceptable BECU - I shouldn't have to have a calendar note every year that BECU will be off line for two months. Quicken, if you can put pressure on it, it would be appreciated here in Seattle.

Plus if you do the BECU work around, no guarantee that you won't have to clean up that set of entries when it does start to work.

Exactly Skyking86, last time around I had to go back and delete hundreds of entries after BECU came live again because they duplicated everything I had already downloaded using the BECU workaround. I called BECU to tell them I wasn't happy about this outage and I got no answers as to when they will be live again. If Quicken can apply pressure to them I would really appreciate it too!!

What annoys me the most about this is that in my experience, BECU is the only institution having a frequent and ongoing problem with Quicken Direct Connect. Personally, I have eight connections and all but BECU's rarely if ever go down, and if one does, it's for a day or two at the most. BECU is clearly an outlier. Why are they and Quicken not somehow applying learnings and/or best practices of so many other institutions providing customers reliable access to their data?

    I agree 100% with Datou.

Also agree with Datou and others. I'm done with BECU, this is a 'repeat offense'. Their web User Interface looks like it's from the '90's, bill pay is clunky & quirky. Some time ago I asked them to set up a total separate small business checking and savings, with a business credit card. I asked for that as I had formed an LLC and needed to keep the personal and business transactions completely separate. They screwed that up, at one point transferred the business accounts from their business system to their consumer system, without telling me. Only way I knew was being unable to log into the business accounts with it's separate credentials. So I set up the business accounts at Chase. Much happier there. And the connection to Chase from Quicken has never had an issue. I found out as a veteran I can get an account there free of most charges, no minimum balance. Bye Bye BECU.

Coming up on the one month anniversary of the annual BECU slow dance to fix an annual problem. . . Honestly, hire a bunch of out of work programmers and get it fixed once and for all. . . With all the banking and MS layoffs, some who actually knows how to code should be easy to find in Redmond.

BECU is in Seattle and Quicken and BECU have this problem together. The BECU website says they are working on it. Microsoft, Google, Amazon have a lot of laid off coders that could fix this and the BECU website says they own the problem. Hence, Redmond.

It's been over a month since the issue is not being fixed. Honestly, it's an annual thing and someone at BECU needs to shake up the IT department and hire people who understand how these things work. It shouldn't be an annual thing for BECU to lose this. The fact that we can count on this going wrong each year in the spring or early summer is really damning.

Months, are you serious BECU? I know we can download transactions from their website, but who wants to do that? That's why we pay for Quicken. I have quite a few accounts with BECU, and quite a few elsewhere. Only BECU has this issue.

Keep bugging them and telling them it's unacceptable.

Definitely frustrating that this can't be resolved. Is there someone at BECU we should be pestering about this? Or can Quicken get them to cooperate?

  • ScottX
    ScottX Member ✭✭

Yes, call them, chat with them, show up in person. The more people complain, the more they may prioritize fixing it. I used the online banking chat yesterday and got this response. Disappointing.

"In February 2026, BECU’s monitoring system began detecting suspicious attempts to access accounts through the OFX (Open Financial Exchange) direct-connect function. As soon as we learned of the issue, we made the decision to turn off the direct-connect function in Online Banking. We recognize the impact to members who rely on this service, and we are working to restore this function in Online Banking, but no timeline has been determined"

  • I solved it. I just stopped banking with them. Issues with BECU and Quicken have happened far too often with BECU response lagging so much that they are no longer worth my time. Good luck to all who are still dealing with this issue.

It seems that closing my account a BECU and banking elsewhere is the only solution. I can't even manually download transactions, I get an error code.

    So frustrating.

I don't see the point of mentioning an alert that hasn't been updated since March 9th. That's a full month without any updates. By now someone should be able to determine if the problem can be fixed, and if it can, when it will be fixed.
