Wells Fargo Securities Users

Have any Quicken users noticed a discrepancy in Quicken download stock (not mutual fund) prices and the stock prices that Wells Fargo shows on on the Wells Fargo website? I download quotes around 8pm and the prices that Quicken downloads do not match the prices Wells Fargo shows on their website so it is not possible to reconcile the accuracy of your account on Quicken. Not every stock price is affected but well over 50% are.

This does not appear to be a Quicken problem because the Quicken prices match prices on Morningstar, Yahoo Finance and CNBC. The outlier is Wells. I have contacted Wells about it without any luck. The problem began on Tuesday, February 17th and has not been resolved.

Wells says their prices are right even though they don't match the closing prices for the day and don't match the closing prices on other sites. But Wells corrects many of the incorrect prices around 6am the following trading day so if their wrong prices were right to begin with, why do they correct them just before the market opens on the next trading day? Since the wrong prices are not corrected until the next trading day, Friday's incorrect prices remain incorrect the entire weekend and only correct a few hours before the market opens on Monday.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

    Hello @bbumbarger,

Thank you for reaching out! Depending on how far off their quotes are, it may be that Wells Fargo updates its quotes at different intervals than Quicken and Morningstar do. That would explain why they disagree in the evening, but agree by morning.

    I hope this helps!

Could you be receiving "after-hours" quotes?

Have you looked at the security history of one of the problem securities?

If the prices are missing the High, Low, and Volume those prices are coming from the download from the financial institution. If they are there, they are coming from Quicken's third-party quote service. And in that case, I would certainly make sure you aren't using real-time quotes because I think they might have after hours prices.

This will pin down where the bad prices are coming from, but in truth that isn't how you reconcile an investment account. To reconcile an investment account, you first make sure that Quicken's number of shares for each security is the same as the financial institutions, and then you reconcile the cash transactions/balance.

For a financial institution that has sent the correct "investment summary information" with the One Step Update you can select the gear icon in the register and then Reconcile Shares to check the first part. Note some financial institution, always keep the downloaded transactions and this information in sync in "real time". As in I have seen it not be in sync until late at night. After that is confirmed, and corrected if needed, you can go on to the cash reconcile, which from the same gear icon you select Reconcile.

And note if one is trying to reconcile to the penny, not shares and cash then most likely you will never "reconcile" that way. Of course, this is assuming that the prices are "close", if they are way off you need to pin down where they are coming from first and then work from there. And it would help if you gave the symbol of one or more of these so others can verify that they are seeing the same thing.

Thanks for your input. It is odd.

Could be after hours trading, but if after hours trading affects the price, then why would it revert back to the previous days closing price just before the market opens the next trading day? Also if it were after hours quotes, then why would those quotes not fluctuate throughout the after hours trading cycle? When I check the Wells site, if a quote is wrong, it remains wrong (without changing during the after hours cycle) until just before trading opens the following day or on weekends until Monday morning (meaning the wrong price shows the entire weekend).

Wells could update pricing at different intervals, but not quite sure how that would explain it because about half are right to the penny and the other half wrong by varying amounts. Seems like it would be all or none.

The Quicken prices are correct and match the closing prices found on Yahoo Finance, CNBC and Morningstar. Wells is the only site I have check that shows different prices for some stocks. Some prices are correct and others are incorrect. No pattern. Different stocks each day. Around half are right and half are wrong.

In terms of reconciliation, I check my total balance on 13 Wells accounts and on Quicken and the grand total for all 13 always matches within a variance of less than 10 cents. It used to be a quick 2 minute process to check to see that everything synced but now that Wells shows different prices for around half of the stocks (not mutual funds) I can no longer get a quick "snapshot" showing everything is correct.

Again this began on 02-17-2026. Prior to that date, the days closing price is what downloaded. I've been using Quicken for 30 years and Wells has always shown the days closing price.
