How to stop Quicken Classic (Windows) from "hallucinating" payee names?

Quicken is hallucinating Payee names, using renaming rules that I never entered. How do I make it stop?

Example:

Payee name in the register was automatically set to "Indianapolis Colts".

Original transaction name is "INDIANAPOLIS CONVENTINDIANAPOLIS IN"

I would have been fine with "Indianapolis Convention", which would be accurate. But this transaction has nothing to do the Colts (who still belong in Baltimore!!!); and I've never entered any other transaction with either Indianapolis or Colts anywhere in the renaming rule.

It appears that the option at Edit > Preferences > Downloaded transactions > "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee" is enabled.

If you don't want Quicken to make its own (often wrong) guess at the correct payee name, and do all your own Payee renaming instead, you should disable that option.

It appears that the rules behind the automatic renaming are too simplistic. My favorite example is "BROWN DOG COFFEE" changing to "Dogs.com." See this discussion for more examples

When you said "original transaction name", is that what you originally input?

OR, what showed when you clicked the gear icon in the upper right corner of the register, clicked "Register columns", and checked "Downloaded Payee"?

That is not currently selected. But, it very well may have been selected when I first downloaded transactions going back several years. [Which is to say, I am still working through the massive initial download traunch].

I am going to mark this as "solved" since that probably was the root issue.

And a quick vent: WTF Quicken? That feature is absolute dog.com (replace ".com" with a four letter word often following "dog", which starts with "cr" and ends with "p").
