New error post software version that added a qualified dividend checkbox. Can not add a MiscInc income that uses a category that I have used for many years.
I see the same issue in R68.25 - If I enter an amount on the Miscellaneous line and pick a Category under Category for Miscellaneous, Quicken ignores my selection and sets the Category to _DivInc.
Note that the income is recorded as _DivInc rather than the Category I selected.
Maybe this is intended to let you split a dividend between Qualified and regular dividends, but it makes the Miscellaneous selection useless for any other purpose.
I edited the title to make the issue clear.
I have reported this using Help > Report a problem and anyone else who sees it should as well. The more reports they receive the better.
Since the last update, when a "Misc Income" transaction is entered in an investment account: the dialog box opens, an amount is entered in the "Misc Income" line and a category is entered in the category box. The transaction is posted to "_DivInc" instead of the specified category.
I've seen this issue for over a year, maybe longer. I'm pretty sure it's been reported before. When you select a category in that window, a random will initially fill it and you have to repeat selecting the desired category to get it to stick.
If now, it only selects to _DivInc, it's different but not new. Just another annoying old bug that was never fixed.
Adding- I can confirm this new behavior. It adds to the old annoying behavior of the selected category not sticking. I stand corrected, this is new and unrelated to the existing bug.
For me, it's definitely a recent issue. I post MiscInc to a custom category several times each month (I recategorize _DivInc to Taxable/Tax Deferred/Tax Free using MiscExp/MiscInc). On 6/18, it worked correctly. On 7/1, it categorized incorrectly.
One added note, you can go to the register, edit and change the _DivInc category to the intended one and it will stick. It's just double the work. Once again, Quicken attempts to fix something that people have long ago found a workaround for, and ends up breaking something else.
My reaction today when I tried to do what I've done for years (change DIV transactions in my IRA accts to MISC "DivIncTaxFree" (my own category) so I can look at my total income by taxable vs non-taxable) was, "WTF?????"
The reason I do that is because I have several stocks that I hold in both our taxable accounts and IRA accounts.
Thank you for confirming that it wasn't just me. I had already been frustrated trying to set up the new Amazon connection to categorize those transactions and reopened a backup file, and then ran into this.
Why was this not tested, Quicken???
I'd like to affirm that this MiscInc category problem is a new bug with version R68.25. It's undoubtedly related to the new Qualified Div feature in R68.25. I had to rollback to R67.10 from the mondo patch page and it restored the previous functionality perfectly (also be sure to restore a 67.10 data file).
I use MiscInc to reclassify downloaded investment account transactions from _InvInc to _InvIncTaxFree or _DivInc to _DivIncTaxFree because they are in a retirement account, so not being able to recategorize these transactions is a major problem that will screw up tax reporting as well.
Furthermore, if you manually change the category from the register (instead of the edit transaction popup), it wipes out the security entry. If you put the security entry back, it defaults back to _DivInc. So, MiscInc is rendered completely useless. This needs to be fixed immediately and QA needs to get there testing scripts together. This is very easy to reproduce. Please escalate to highest priority as it interrupts major functionality and I will not upgrade again until it is fixed.
Side note: when the category popup window opens I'd like it to remember to "Show Hidden Categories" rather than have to check the box every single time. That should be fixed as well.
So sad, and I’m sure on the slow train for a fix. It also seems to ignore records recorded like this in reports.
I don’t see that behavior; seems like MicsInc is totally locked out of use. No editing in register changes that.
Good feedback. Odd. I was able to correct the category. Not by clicking the edit button and re-opening the dialog box, but by overtyping the category directly in the register line.
I'm experiencing the same problem. The new fix for qualified dividends works perfectly, but no matter how many times I try to select 'IntIncTaxFree' from 'Miscellaneous', it always records as 'DivInc'. Obviously a big problem that needs to be fixed ASAP.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to report the error and submit your reports. I appreciate your help.
I've forwarded the information to the appropriate team for further investigation.
I also noticed that some of the reports were submitted without log files. If that's the case for you, I'd appreciate it if you could resend the report and include the log files. There's no need to describe the issue again; leave the description blank and simply attach the logs.
I'll be sure to share any updates as soon as new information becomes available.
Thank you again for your cooperation!

@CountDeMonet2022 (Off topic to the extent that the introduced bug needs to be fixed regardless):
You are not alone in doing that, but I have never understood the need to do so. Can you explain?
My reasoning for not doing so:
What are you needing that I am missing?
