Credit card charges are now entered as payment

Now suddenly my credit card charges result in the card balance going down. This occurs both when I download them and when I enter them manually. I have used Quicken for over 20 years. I have trouble shot every register option. Yes the account is still a "credit" account. The columns are correct as well

Is this affecting all transactions (charges look like payments and payments look like charges), or only charges?
If it is affecting all transactions, check your account balance.
- If the balance is positive instead of negative, that would be why the transactions appear reversed.

In the balance column, what color are the numbers, red or black? It should be red (you owe money).

If black, you are in an overpayment condition, so either you have lost a bunch of charges, gained some payments (probably dups) or you Opening Balance of the account has changed.

OR, there's a filter on the account that's causing only certain transactions to be displayed … and the all/mostly payments.

That Opening Balance should almost certainly be a CHARGE (if you created the account in Q after using the card for a while) or $0. It's possible, but unlikely, that you had a credit balance (Payment, black in Balance column) when you created the account in Q.

Also, if this is a recent problem, Restore an older backup file TO A NEW FILE NAME, and see what the opening balance in the account should be. Sometimes, that OB gets changed by Q when certain things happen. Use a different file name so as to not overwrite your current file.

Which is why it's recommended that for any Q account that you download transactions, you record the correct amount in the Memo field of the Opening Balance transaction … so that IF the amount gets changed, it's easy to spot and know what it should be.
