I've been using Quicken since the late 80's, for personal finance and for multiple small businesses. My wife thinks I'm in love with Quicken, but I cannot remember ever being SO HAPPY with a new feature as I am with the new Amazon Plugin for categorizing various purchases.

If I wasn't in love before, I am now.

Would you please explain what this new Amazon Plugin is, how to use it, and in which release it was introduced? (I am using the Deluxe edition in case this new feature is not available to Deluxe)

Of course!

Retail Purchase Categorization gives you an itemized view of your Amazon purchases. Instead of seeing every order lumped into a single category like "Shopping" or "Amazon," Quicken splits each Amazon transaction by item and assigns a category based on what you purchased. Your budgets and spending reports then reflect your actual spending.

The feature works through a browser extension that connects to your Amazon account and retrieves your order history. During One Step Update (OSU), Quicken matches those orders to the corresponding transactions in your register, splits them by line item, and applies a category to each one.

I don't have the "Retail Purchase Categorization" under tools! Is this a Premier only feature?

Hello All,

I believe this was released in R68.12, or shortly after. It was rolled out in late June to 10k users and will continue to be rolled out in increments. As far as I can tell, there is nothing stating that it is only available in certain tiers of Quicken.

@BK I saw this on Reddit, where a Quicken employee provided a little more detail about the rollout of this feature:

The Retail Purchase Categorization is currently in development and available to a subset of users running R68. Not all users have access to this feature yet, and those who have access aren't necessarily in our beta testing program. I see the wording on the FAQ could have better explained this...
We will expand Retail Purchase Categorization (RPC) to more users gradually, I'd expect over the next few weeks but we don't have an exact ETA. If you don't see this option yet, it should arrive soon!
The Retail Categorization for Amazon is currently for Quicken Classic on Windows only. [But] it has been recently bee approved and moved into the "Planned" stage [for Quicken Mac].
