% Change for Watch List of Securities and/or Indexes that aren't owned

Is there a column available in the current version of Quicken Premier on the Investment Tab that would display the Daily %, YTD, Annual, etc change of an Index or Security that I'm tracking but don't actually own? It seems like all of the existing % options are based on $ and values instead of price?

If not, doesn't it seem like a huge hole in a Investment tracking product? I've seen suggestions to put a fractional .00001 share of a tracked security, which seems ridiculous and of course wouldn't work for an index anyway.

What am I missing? Thanks for feedback!!

Thank you for reaching out! On the Investing tab, Portfolio tab, you can see items that are on your watchlist. Not all of the columns will display information for watchlist items. It appears that many of them don't display because, without shares, there's nothing for it to use to calculate the value.

If there are specific columns that currently don't show anything for watchlist items that you'd like to see display information, I recommend that you create an Idea post to request that functionality be added:

@get You can enable the "Price Day Change" and "Price Day Change (%)" columns in any of the Investing > Portfolio views to see the daily changes in securities on the Watch List if quotes are available and up to date..

The "Return (%)" columns for various time periods are based on downloaded quote data rather than your holdings. Thus I think there is no reason they should not be available for indexes and Watch List securities that you do not own, but for some reason they display as N/A. Note that these values are the security's total return, including reinvested dividends, not just the price changes. The data comes from Quicken's quote provider.

I would certainly support an Idea that requests that the Return (%) XXX data be made available for indexes and Watch List securities that you do not own.

Thanks for the comment @Jim_Harman. Mostly I wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking an optional column that already included that info.

I vaguely remember this % working on Watch List securities and indexes many years ago but at some point after an update they stopped. Most likey someone changed the formula to calculate it based on Day Gain/Loss / Market Value instead of Price Day Change / Quote/Price.

I suspect that if it was as easy to fix as it would seem, then it would have been done already….
