Download QFX file fails after upgrading to Canadian version R68.32

After upgrading to the most recent version, downloading a QFX file from my bank fails.

1st Dialog:

Before the upgrade, everything worked fine.

The only way I can use the "QFX" file now is to do the following:

File → File Import → Web Connect (QFX File) …

and then browse to the file that was downloaded to the "Downloads" folder.

Anyone else getting this?

How are initiating that download? From within Q, or from the bank's website?

And, somehow or another, you're clicking on a Q install file (the .msi file) rather than a QFX.

Just downloading from the bank. It used to launch Quicken and then the downloaded transactions would be displayed in Quicken.

It behaves the same if I double click on the "QFX" file.

I upgraded to R68.32 this morning. I have hte SAME problem with these error messages. Started immediately after the upgrade. Same workaround solution as mentionned by cmercier62

Yes, same here. I believe this is the same situation/issue that happened a while back with a Windows 11 upgrade/update. I vaguely recall (could be wrong) that you ended up having to remove and reinstall Quicken to fix the issue, but I didn't want to go through that. So now I just have to manually download the file and then go into Quicken and do the File —> Import QFX option and that seems to work.

I wold check the Win11 File Associations. It should be qw.exe for a .QFX file. You will find qw.exe in this folder:
Program Files (x86)\Quicken

Is there a way to rollback to the previous version? Where can I get the previous version ? Was the structure of the data file modified with this latest release so that I would be obliged to restore older data file backup ?

I have the exact same problem since the update, getting the 1706 error. The QXF files are associated with qw.exe, so that's not the cause. I'd like to get a very simple solution as I'm not an expert in technology. In the meantime, thank you to cmercier62 for the workaround solution.

It could be that the initial installation of the R68.31 (US) and R68.32 (Canada) version update failed to install correctly or completely. This is not an uncommon issue when letting Quicken do version updates.

It seems to occur less frequently when manually downloading and saving the Manual Patch Update file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product/ and the double clicking on that saved file to initiate the version update installation process.

If the issue you are experiencing is caused by the initial version update not installing correctly, the normal fix is to simply reinstall the new version per the process mentioned in the previous paragraph. Just let it install right over the version you currently have installed.

If that doesn't work, you could try uninstalling Quicken. Then download and install a fresh copy of Quicken from either your online Quicken.com account or from https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-download-quicken-quickencom-after-i-buy-it .

Hi. I already downloaded the R68.32 and tried an update from this download. But it did not resolve the problem. I was not interested, for now, to uninstall and reinstall Quicken Classic. Maybe Quicken team could confirm that this is a WORKING solution? Because the problem was created by Quicken, they should provide a solution. I have noticed another problem like trying to print transactions in PDF format using "Quicken PDF printer on NUL:". It was working before. By chance, I can rely on "Microsoft Print on PDF on PORTPROMPT:".

For this issue, I suggest you call Quicken phone support and do a screen share and let them watch you reinstall the software.

I did the upgrade this morning and I did a QFX download after the upgrade and it worked fine for me.

There are a few reports here of this or similar issues with the installation, but it obviuosly is not affecting everyone. Best to sort out with Quicken support.

Another Canadian 20 year + user here. I have the exact same download errors when trying to initiate a download from CIBC and Interactive Brokers on both of my PCs (one Windows 10 and one Windows 11).
It would seem to be a consistent issue with the latest upgrade.

I've also just discovered that if I try to open Quicken by double-clicking my Quicken data file from within Explorer the same attempted installation occurs. So, does that mean the problem has to do with how the executable is launched?

I am successfully downloading transactions from RBC and BMO using Quicken Classic Business & Personal Ver R68.32 Build 27.1.68.32 Canada Edition without issue. Therefore, the reported issues are only affecting some users. Furthermore, this release has finally resolved a long running bug with the colour coding of custom asset classes in the asset allocation report! Woo-hoo !!

Again, best to contact Quicken Phone Support with this issue. The reported issue that may require Quicken's intervention to resolve.

OK. I had enough with this problem that is clearly coming from the last Patch 68.32. I originally installed this program MANY years ago. From that time, I just installed the new provided patches to keep up to date.

I then decided to uninstall and reinstall Quicken with the risk of failing.

This is exactly what happened. I first uninstalled using the Program Manager of Win 11 and then decided to reboot.

I then reinstalled from a fresh download of "Quicken-Canada.exe".

At the end, the installation failed with an error message, suggesting contacting Quicken Support or to remove the installation directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken" before trying again.

I noticed this information at the end of the installation log :

I think that last patch upgrade could be confused by some old components that we may had in our directory because our installation was very old.

I then decided to run the installation again, without rebooting and without deleting the existing installation directory.

The second time the installation was a SUCCESS ! Ouf !

I then started the Quicken application with success. I entered my Quicken ID credentials, and everything was OK. All my configuration was preserved and working OK.

I then downloaded a QFX file from a financial institution and directly opened the qfx file from the browser, like before, WITH SUCCESS ! Everything is working well as much as I have tested up to now.

Since my original installation was old of many years. the Quicken Icon on my desktop was the old one. In fact, I noticed after the second reinstall that the Quicken Icon is different, more "stylish" !

So, I hope that this experience may convince some of you to go ahaid with a reinstall.

Thanks for confirming that the suggestion I posted on Aug 3 resolved the issue for you. It does appear that the initial update installation did not install completely or properly. When this happens, the reinstall process with usually resolve the issue.
