Cant change financial Institution after deactivating online services

Question

Discover card is now under capital one.  I wont to update my Discover account to know go to Capital One for online services.  The problem is I have deactivated online services for my Discover account but still cant edit the financial institution and when I try to setup the online services it still wants to go to Discover.com (which makes sense as the financial institution is still Discover in the account setup).  Any help would be appreciated.

(Be sure to backup your data file before proceeding.)

After you deactivated the account, did you go to the General tab of Account Details and then delete the Financial Institution Information (everything above the Contact Name field)?  If not, do that.

Then instead of using Set Up Now, go to Tools > Add Account and try setting up the account with Capital One.  When prompted to decide what to do with the downloaded account data, make sure you Link it to the Discover card you already have in Quicken.

Note:  This process might download duplicate transactions.  If the account balance is not correct, scroll backward through the account looking for duplicates and delete them if any are found.  In most cases, if any duplicates are found they will appear within the last 90 days or so.

If the account is still not in balance, see if the Opening Balance transaction has been changed.  If it was, correct it.

Also, look to see if a 2nd Opening Balance transaction was entered somewhere in the register.  If you find one, delete it but make sure to keep the original one.

If the approach from @gtgerbo does not work, do this:

After deactivating the Discover account(s), go to Tools > Add account and select Capital One.

Follow the instructions ad when you gat to a screen that shows the Capital One account numbers, carefully choose Link to an existing account and select the correct account in Quicken to link it to.

Try again but before you do, go to "Account Details" click on the "General" tab and clear the "Financial Institution" and "Account Number" fields.
