Subcategory not included in Dashboard

I have a subcategory within the MEDICAL category that is not being properly captured in the SPENDING BY CATEGORY summary in the Dashboard. I had a long chat on-line with the help desk and the YEAR TO DATE option on that report is not capturing the same transactions as the "LAST 12 MONTHS" or "LAST 6 MONTHS" options. The data is available by running traditonal reports, but on the DASHBOARD, it is not being captured for reference using the YEAR TO DATE criteria. All other criteria seem to work.

Thank you for reaching out! I can see that Support wasn't able to resolve the issue when you contacted them. Which exact categories/subcategories are you seeing this behavior with? What percentage of your spending do they make up? When the categories disappear from the dashboard tile, do they show up in the report that comes up when you click on Other? If you're willing, please share screenshots of what you're seeing when you change the timeframe. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

Kristina, The exact subcategory is MEDICAL:MEDICARE. They do show up in the report when I click on it however they're not included in the tile. It seems to be only when trying to view transactions in YEAR TO DATE, QUARTER TO DATE, or MONTH TO DATE that it is happening. If I select LAST 12 MONTHS or LAST YEAR, they are included.

As you can see, MEDICARE is in the LAST 12 MONTHS shot but not the YEAR TO DATE (and there have been more than 6 transaction in 2026).

@drgagnon And just to verify the issue, can you show that the missing subcategory (Medicare) in the dashboard actually does have transactions that fall within the "Year to Date" time frame? You said it shows up in a report; can you do a Summary report, Year-to-Date, for category Medical, showing that the other 6 subcategories have the same amounts as shown in the Dashboard, while the Medicare amount on the report is missing from the Dashboard.

(I've been trying to replicate this with my data. I thought I did it when I found a subcategory which is included in the Dashboard in "Last 12 Months" but is not in "Year-To-Date". But when I drilled down, I found the transaction included in "Last 12 Months" was in September 2025, and thus is correctly not included in Year-To-Date.)

The reason it isn't showing up in the Year To Date panel is because your YTD total is a net positive - you had a $1540 deposit in January and only $1200 or so in payments since then. Since your total for the year is not an expense it doesn't show up in the Spending panel. When the overall total drops into negative territory - it looks like you're making quarterly payments so I assume that will happen next month - it should appear again.

@drgagnon As @Jon noted above, this report shows you have a positive value for your Medicare subcategory. It can't show a positive value (a "negative expense") in the dashboard because it is built around a pie chart — and there's no way to represent a negative value in a pie chart. So Quicken is displaying this properly.

If you really want to see the Medicare expense in the Dashboard card, you could create a separate subcategory for the payments you receive, rather than combining the deposits and the expenses in one sub-category.

I understand. I wouldn't have guessed that without a lot of help. Thank you for your research & being able to explain it. You're right, once I make the next quarterly payment in September, it will bring my YTD into the positive for that subcategory.

I'm fine with that; knowing what to expect makes it easier to understand.
