Quicken takes forever to start

Quicken has become slower and slower and now has gotten to a point it does not finish the initiation for hours. I've been using Quicken for many years. I've done annual purges, but Quicken is not good at doing the purge.

I've moved Quicken to a local drive, but that has not helped.
I need reports to be run for tax filing and am stuck. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

@mrbhatia you mentioned moving your file to a local drive. That is indeed one of the troubleshooting steps for improving Quicken system performance. Have tried any others? The attached Quicken Support article has some other suggestions for improving Quicken performance -

Any time you do any troubleshooting steps in Quicken, please remember to make a backup of your data file first.

@mrbhatia When you open Q, what page/account does it open to? If an Investment type account, have you tired Archiving the closed positions in the account to reduce the account size and thus improve performance?

Do you have Q set to do transaction downloads when you start Q?

Also, have you tried taking a backup and then Validating your Q data file? Data corruption can slow Q down.

@mrbhatia what do you by initiation? Is it taking hours for Quicken to open?

Quicken used to be very slow for me as well, updates and balance calculations took very long, such that it was 30 seconds or more after entering a transaction before Quicken was finished with recalculations. This was with my quicken data file on my local drive, not in the cloud.

I created a shortcut on my desktop (this is in windows) that contains the following in the target section of the shortcut properties:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "Quicken" /abovenormal "C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\qw.exe"

Quicken starts fast and recalculates fast, because it runs with higher than normal priority.
