Reconciling One Account Incorrectly Marks Linked Transfers as Reconciled in Other Accounts (R69.53)

I'm using Quicken Classic for Windows R69.53, build 27.1.69.53. I've been a Quicken user and advisor to other users for over 25 years.

Intermittently, after I reconcile a bank account, linked transfers to another bank account or credit card account are also marked R in the destination account, even though I have not reconciled that account. This changes the destination account’s calculated prior reconciliation balance and creates a discrepancy when I reconcile it later. The behavior does not occur consistently. A similar Community report is titled “Reconciling Items in One Account Appears In Corresponding Transfer Account.”

This has happened enough times to frustrate me as I search for opening-balance discrepancies in subsequent reconciliations of the account receiving the transfer. I believe this is a bug in the software.

You mentioned this is intermittent behavior. Is there any pattern to it or anything that seems to trigger it?

We both know this is a Quicken bug and needs to be fixed. Enough people have reported this issue on this forum, and so far, Quicken still hasn't fixed it. To comply with your questions, I'll humor you, if only to waste both of our time:

When did you first notice this behavior? Several months ago, if not more than a year ago. I sometimes just mark items reconciled rather than use the Quicken reconciliation feature because it's faster and there are few transactions.
- Did it start after a program or computer update? No
Do you keep your Quicken file directly on your local hard drive? Local hard drive, only back up to Dropbox-no sync on Dropbox drive.
- Is it synced with any cloud services, such as OneDrive, iCloud, or Dropbox? No
Does this affect all of your accounts?
- If not, which specific accounts are affected? Bank accounts to credit cards, bank accounts to bank accounts, and vice-versa. Who reconciles anything else?

How often does this happen? Lately, every time I reconcile a bank account or credit card, rather than just mark the items reconciled manually and avoid the reconciliation facility.

Please tell me whether it's normal behavior for Quicken to mark transfers from one bank account to another as reconciled in the receiving account. I say it's not.

It is not normal behavior for reconciling a transfer in one account to cause it to be reconciled in the other account. I tried to replicate this issue in my file, but I wasn't able to.

The issue may be file-specific. To start troubleshooting, I suggest that you try validating your data file. Please save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

Validate:

File
Validate and Repair File...
Validate File
Click OK
Close the Data Log
Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 seconds)
Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
