Backup vs Sync

My understanding is that the backup backs up the file on the local PC, while, the sync backs up the file in Quicken Cloud. Am I correct?

Backup copies your ENTIRE Q data file to the location selected by you.Synch, used by Q Mobile or Q on the Web, copies only a small subset of the entire file.Which is why the Synched file can't be used to recover from a hard drive catastrophy.

So, is it necessary to backup on my local drive and perhaps in onedrive as well for extra safety? I am also curious as to what is the use of the sync function if it only saves part of the file? A slightly confused here. Thanks.0

Never store a backup on your local drive. When (not if) the drive fails your backup goes with it. Seems to me storing the backup to a local drive that is synced to the cloud (e.g., Dropbox, OneDrive) is 99% safe. The 1% is because if your hard drive fails, it is possible you would also have an Internet connection problem the exact time you want to pull the restore, but that is not likely. And you could always go somewhere else and get the backup from the cloud.5
