Converting from 2004 File (Q Mac)

I'm sure this has been brought up previously, and I did see a few similar questions/answers.....Just spoke with Quicken Support and it does not seem like I can convert my Quicken 2004 file to a new version without first converting that file to a 2007 version. And then, take that file and converting it to the latest 2019 edition. Is this accurate? My iMac just died 2 days ago with my last Quicken backup March 3rd. I have the hard drive and found the Quicken.qdfm file with the last back up, but have no way to open it, or converting it to the new software.
Please, any help and/or suggestions are welcome! Amazon is selling a 2007 Quicken for over $180. That's nuts.

Yes, that is correct.
More specifically, you will need a PowerPC copy of 2007 (versions 16.0.x) and an old Mac to run it on. The more common (as of now) "Lion Compatible" version of 2007 (versions 16.1.x) will not convert 2004 files.6 -
You can often find Quicken 2007 Lion Compatible available from a a seller on eBay; it's currently available for $56, but as John says above, this will not work for you. This Lion Compatible version (version 16.1 or 16.2) can only open Quicken 2005, 2006 and 2007 files.
You need the original Quicken 2007 (version 16.0), which is harder to find. Quicken 2006 will also work: it will read your 2004 data file, and Quicken 2019 will import it (even though Quicken's documentation says only Quicken 2007). And in order to run either this Quicken 2007 or Quicken 2006, you need to find a Mac running Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6.8) so you can take this interim step.
