When transferring short positions between accounts, how do I correct the cost basis?

The Move transactions option moved all long positions perfectly, but I had to manually use 'add' from the old account and 'remove' from the new account to enter the positions. Cost basis is not entered in the 'removed' positions. How do I fix this?

Cost basis is established when we acquire shares. I suggest you enter ShrtSellX action transactions with a self-referencing transfer account to establish the short holdings in the new account in place of the Removed action transactions.5

Similar issue here, except I'm using Quicken for Mac. If you enter a short sell transaction, you have to negate the proceeds otherwise your cash won't balance. And what do you mean by "a self-referencing transfer account?" Thanks.
