How can I remove an invalid entry that can't be voided or deleted?

Options
I have an entry in a credit card account that shows a date of 20/16/1900. No matter what I try to change, the date, the amount, or anything else it will not save the new value. I've tried voiding and deleting but it will not save.

    Hello @FLKED,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community to tell us about your issue, though I apologize that you are experiencing this.

Could you please provide which version of Quicken you have currently running?

If you haven't already, I suggest you try to Validate your data file by following the steps below. However, I do recommend that you also Save a backup of your data file first before trying these steps (just in case).
    1. Navigate to the File menu
    2. Select File Operations
    3. Validate and Repair...
    4. Select Validate file
    5. Click OK
    6. Close the Data Log
    7. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    8. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
You can also try to Super validate the copied file by holding down the Ctrl + Shift keys on your keyboard while selecting Validate and Repair... (step 3) which will give you the option to Super validate file instead of Validate file.

Let us know how it goes!

    Hi @FLKED,

It appears that there may be some level of corruption in your datafile.  To fix that, I suggest that you validate your file by following the guidance located HERE.  As a part of that process, Quicken should delete that transaction.

Let us know how that goes.

    @FLKED

Thanks for the extra information. Is this a new transaction that appeared after updating or has it been in the register? When you delete it does it still remain in the register or disappear then come back after reopening the program? I have an idea on how to try to delete it but we'll need more information before we're able to try. Any other information on the transaction as well will help.

    Thanks,
    Quicken Francisco

    Hi @FLKED,

Did you validate and/or supervalidate, per my suggestions above?  If so, can you give us the results?

I did both a validate and super validate. The results were that it did do a lot of cleanup of damaged data records. The super validation ended with:

Quicken found a damaged scheduled reminder and removed it. Please check your scheduled reminders by going to Tools>Manage Bills and Income Reminders.

    QEL:
    No read errors.

    QEL:
    All internal consistency checks passed.

    [Tue Jan 26 16:15:37 2021]
    No out-of-range security references found.

    Super validation has completed.

The entry did seem to go away but after closing the file overnight it was there again this morning when I restarted.

@FLKED Thank you for trying that, though I'm sorry to hear that it reappeared after closing and reopening the program.

Next, I suggest you create a copy of your data file in an attempt to rebuild all of the internal lists and database tables by following the steps below. Then, try to Validate your data file again, but in the copied file instead this time. Please, be sure to save a backup of your data file again first before trying these steps.
    1. Navigate to the File menu
    2. Select File Operations
    3. Copy...
    4. Leave the presets as is and click OK
    5. Wait for the copy procedure to complete
    6. Select New Copy and click OK

Once the copied file opens, go ahead and follow the previous validate/super validate steps again. If this successfully resolves the issue (permanently), you will need to move forward using the copied file.

If this does not resolve the issue, you can either switch back to your original file or restore the backup you saved prior to performing the above troubleshooting instructions (both the original and backup files should remain unaffected by the steps performed in the copied file).

Follow the steps below to switch back to your original file
    :
    1. Click the File menu.
    2. Look near the bottom of the options list.
    3. Select the data file you want to open.

Quicken will list the most recently opened data files, with a checkmark next to the file you are currently viewing.

Let us know how it goes!

If Copy + Validate + Supervalidate can't repair or remove the damaged entry, you will have to restore your Quicken data file from a Manual or Automatic Backup taken prior to the problem first occurring, if necessary going back to older backups until you find a file that does not exhibit these symptoms.
