TXFR transactions not allowing Category editing

On TXFR transactions for which Quicken doesn't know a Category (thus it loads blank or wrong one), I cannot edit Category - dropdown shows me my account list, not my categories. On 02-11-21 a Quicken rep saw this (screen shared), was baffled and opened a ticket for me, promising me a phone call back soon. I have heard nothing. Finally a week later here I am...

It is amazing the Quicken rep was baffled by the expected behavior of a transfer transaction: https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-categorize-transfer-quicken-windows

Let me take a wild guess. The register in question is linked to a USAA account, right?

USAA is marking transactions as a transfer type when they shouldn't be (have been doing so since the switch over).  The result is that Quicken puts TXFR in the check number column.  Once that is done the category list is filtered to only transfers.

To workaround this delete TXFR from the check number column and then you will be able to select whatever category you want.

    Hi @BarbNY,

Quicken doesn't allow "categories" if the transaction is a transfer.  And when you see the square brackets [ ] in the category filed - that will always be a transfer.  You just need to delete the entry in the category field - including the brackets [ ], and you will be able to insert any category you want.

    Behavior of category pulldown list:

    Note only transfers.
Without the TXFR in the check # column:

As you can see it is the TXFR in the check # field that restricts the menu list, not the fact that a person has selected a transfer ([Account])

In the case I picked this just happened to be a transfer, but since the switch over on USAA it is marking them all as transfers and as such people can't pick a normal category.

Thanks all - YAY: remove "TXFR" and categories are available! And yes, it's USAA; this was not a problem until after the recent debacle. In fact, most (not all) of the categories I had set up with TXFRs before are still working (ex; monthly cable TV debit comes in with the category it has always had). But some new TXFRs since January 29 are where the problem is. Again, thanks all.
