Year End Copy Not Removing Old Entries

To reduce the file size, every year, around the end of January, I have done a Year End Copy and Backup. Keeping only the entries relating to the current year. Yet, in January, February, and March I have tried to use Year End Copy to keep only current records. Unfortunately, no matter what I did, Quicken keeps several Reconciled entries from throughout the previous year, INCLUDING the Starting Balance from January 2020. This, obviously, makes everything in my register off by thousands of dollars.
What is causing this problem? I have done this for at least 7 years with no problems. But this year no matter what I do, it won't work properly.
To be honest, I've had MAJOR problems for the last few months since the last major update. Most of which have still not been fixed by incremental updates since then.

There's your screenshot. Personal information removed.

I just took a quick look at the image you provided. Unfortunately, you masked the Category field for each transaction.
Are these transactions transfer transactions to another Quicken account register? Or Split transactions where one or more of the splits are transfers to another account register?
If so, are all the splits in the transfer-to/from account register also marked Reconciled?
Quicken does not remove transactions during YEC unless ALL splits involved in the transaction have been reconciled.

I just tried a Year End Copy and am having the same issue. Yes I selected the "I only want transactions in my current data file starting with this date" (date was 1/2/2021. After Archived file completed selected "Use Current File". File dates go back to 2007 still.

Exactly. This has always been a surprisingly easy process, but this year, it's been a major hassle.
The last major update really screwed a lot of things up for me. For months, I've had multiple duplicate entries show up as cleared again on my credit cards. Fortunately, only once did I not catch them before applying them. That took almost 2 hours to figure out why nothing was matching up.
I've loved using Quicken for at least 20 years, but this complete screw up has made me question that loyalty.
Honestly, if I could find a similar and more reliable product, I would consider changing. I'm in application and web development, so I can say this with some authority... Test your updates before releasing them to unsuspecting customers...

I just tested this on my data file and it worked as expected.  Did you meet all of the conditions in this FAQ to do a successful YEC? FAQ - Year End Copy

Yes. I have followed all the conditions as noted in that post. I've done this process at least 20 times without problems until this year. Though it might change at some point, I don't currently have any specific need for historical reporting once my previous year's taxes are complete. So I have typically done a year end copy around late January or early February. When I tried it this year, Quicken simply didn't archive 15 or 20 entries including the Opening Balance from 01/01/2020 (i.e. the previous year's opening balance). Every entry it kept was Reconciled several months before.

How about a screenshot of one or two of the transactions that were not removed?

I second/third the issues described above.  The year end copy used copy used to work just fine.  No more.  I met all of the conditions, and tried it three times with the same result (insanity).  i also agree that quicken with the latest updates has caused several issues with starting balances (when deactivating/reactivating accounts) that may be off by thousands of dollars rendering the entire register useless.  Quicken user since 2005 but shopping alternatives

So, what is the answer to this problem? I see that I am not alone, but no answer from the community.

Best I can tell, there isn't one. I haven't had a chance to test again. I'm going to try and get to it tomorrow.

Yeah. I just figured that out. I thought everything was reconciled in the other accounts, until I looked at it closely when masking everything. I had a couple of credit cards that, apparently, never generated a statement. I went to their websites to verify that, and I can only guess that, since I paid them off immediately, they never generated statements. And therefore, I never reconciled them.
It ended up being an investment account, 2 cards, and PayPal that jacked everything up. I don't have time right now, but I reconciled all the cleared entries and will test again tonight to be sure.

Right on. I have also used Quicken for over 20 years. Suddenly, a major problem getting checking account downloads, while investment accounts download OK. Come to find I had to reset checking account ID and password. Took over a week with multiple calls, and on line screen shares and finally my banks Quicken specialist too solve the problem. I won’t change from Quicken, but strongly agree a better system of checking before release is required.

I've had that problem off and on since September or October, maybe earlier. Though it has become less painful to fix. I've also had the problem with duplicate entries, my 401k account refusing to download new entries, every day a random account failing to connect and having to download that one by itself to fix it, and really lots of issues with the update all process since October. That whole process has jumped from a 30-60 second process to, sometimes, upwards of 5 minutes. And white the old pop-up used to update with a green dot as each account was processed, the new update marks 3-4 accounts as green immediately, then doesn't give any status updates until the whole process is done. Several times, it took long enough that I thought it was hung. I've been a Quicken user for 20+ years and never had these kinds of issues until the last 6 months or so.
I'd love for a new update to fix some of these.
