Is Quicken for Windows better than Quicken for Mac?

I'm using Quicken for Mac and have been using the Mac version for the past 10 years. Years ago, Quicken for Windows was better than Quicken for Mac. Is Quicken for Windows still better than Quicken for Mac? Is the App version for Windows the same as the App version for Mac? Thanks to any of you who may have insight on this.

I am strictly a Windows user so I can't comment on what is or isn't in the Mac version.

Home Inventory is no longer supported in QWin

It has been reported that conversion from Mac to Windows does not work well, for example investing accounts are not converted, and transfers between accounts are broken.

It depends on what you mean by "better" and what features you intend to use. There are still some features in QWin that are not available on the Mac but I believe the report generation is more flexible in Mac.

Quicken Mac does not have a Home and Business version.

Thank you Jim. Does the quicken for home use have more robust investment options than the Mac version? Is there a Home Inventory feature in Quicken for Windows? Would you happen to know, if I make the switch from Mac to Windows version, do my attachments automatically import from Mac to Windows?

Since the export/import is done with a QXF you can look at the limitations of that here:

    Attachments, saved reports, budgets, ... aren't exported/imported.

I just noticed something in that article.  It states that Quicken Windows can't export investment transactions/positions through QXF.  That is not correct.  It does export them and Quicken Mac can import them.  But Quicken Windows can't import them.  But in truth most people don't convert that way.  What they do is copy their Quicken data file to their Mac and let it submit it for conversion.  That conversion actually does convert it to QXF using a version of Quicken Windows on a server (done on the server because it requires a 32-bit operating system, and Mac is 64-bit these days).

I am a mac user that is looking to go to windows. I would say that the mac version is definitely "cleaner" looking and easy on the eyes, but the windows versions has a lot of little features that the mac version doesn't have (things like hide categories, and much better reporting for investments (too bad it doesn't import, urg). if the stuff you do in quicken is basic, it's probably the same, but if you're an advanced user, then you'll probably miss all those little features that the window version has.

    has anyone tried https://www.propersoft.net/howto/import-investment-transactions-quicken

Last month I made the move to Quicken for Windows from Quicken for Mac. Things that don't transfer are the investment accounts and the transfers between accounts. Saved reports do not transfer. In some cases Quicken for Windows on your first transaction download will download duplicate transactions to what was already downloaded. there's more in this thread: https://community.quicken.com/discussion/comment/20186387#Comment_20186387

After getting past the initial issues with the transfer, here's my experience, based on a side-by-side comparison. There are features that aren't available in the Mac version. Setting up things like mortgage accounts are easier in Windows - the wizard is more complete. Assets (such as a car or house) are also easier to set up, for the same reason. Reports are a bit easier. Overall I like the Windows version better. I just wish it looked like the Mac version. The interface looks older.

I just bought a MAc and I am very disappointed with the Quicken version for MAC. Everything takes so much longer 😢
