Reinvested dividends gives the user an error before it is logical to have the error.

This has been going on for a while. When you have a reinvested dividend you get a pop up message saying Security Name is required this pops up before you get the chance to actually put in the security name. It could be an easy fix.. give the user a chance to enter the security then if the user tries to advance without the security name then and only them show the error message,

    I have LOTS of reinv divs ... and I'm not seeing that.
    So, could you please detail your process for entering these? And, are you downloading from into this account?
    Also, What Q product are you running and what BUILD of that product and what's your "Membership
    Valid Thru" date? This info is at HELP, About Quicken.

    To me that sounds like either the financial institution isn't properly sending the reinvest information, or maybe some kind of mismatch with the securities you have.

    Here is a typical reinvest dividend transaction sent from Vanguard (you can see such details in Help -> Log Files -> OFX Log).
                        <REINVEST>
                            <INVTRAN>
                                <FITID>342207682
                                <DTTRADE>20210701160000.000[-5:EST]
                                <DTSETTLE>20210701160000.000[-5:EST]
                                <MEMO>DIVIDEND REINVESTMENTDIVIDEND REINVESTMENT
                            </INVTRAN>
                            <SECID>
                                <UNIQUEID>72201B101
                                <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP
                            </SECID>
                            <INCOMETYPE>DIV
                            <TOTAL>-512.73
                            <SUBACCTSEC>CASH
                            <UNITS>25.83
                            <UNITPRICE>19.8505
                        </REINVEST>

    You see above the that CUSIP is provided to identify the security that is involved.
    Later in that OFX data there is also this information.
                <STOCKINFO>
                    <SECINFO>
                        <SECID>
                            <UNIQUEID>72201B101
                            <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP
                        </SECID>
                        <SECNAME>20PIMCO CORPORATE  INCM OPPORTUNITY FUND
                        <TICKER>PTY
                        <UNITPRICE>20.8636
                        <MEMO>Price as of date based on closing price
                    </SECINFO>
                    <STOCKTYPE>COMMON
                    <YIELD>7.5875
                </STOCKINFO>

    So with properly formatted OFX data sent to Quicken there shouldn't be any reason why Quicken doesn't know what security is involved for a reinvest of d dividend.

    You guys are barking up the wrong trees. This is a simple GUI bug. If you open the dialog and tab out of the empty security name field, you get this error. The error should not pop up until the user tries to apply the dialog with the field empty.

    @Rocket J Squirrel thanks, yes didn't realize this was about entering it manually.

    I echo @Chris_QPW's thanks.  Since I always download from Fidelity, I'd never come across this either.

    Mr. Squirrel is correct. Most of the other replies are talking about downloading data from financial institutions. That is not what is happening here. I enter transactions manually Old School I know.. This has been a long standing bug in Quicken I am using Quicken for Windows Release R 34.24 Using a Lenovo ThinkPad with Windows 10 (had the same problem with Windows 7)
