Where do we enter check numbers?

Just starting and trying to "write checks" in register and no place for check number. This is going to be a long set up process for me, I can tell.

The Write Checks (Ctrl-W) option in the gear menu is for printing checks, where the check number is assigned at print time.

If you are recording checks that you have written by hand, you can record them directly in the Register and enter the check number there. If for some reason the Check # column is not displayed in the register, click on the gear at the top right of the register, select Register columns, and make sure "Check #" is selected.

While in the checking account register, click on the icon in the screenshot and then check the box for "Check #"
