Import info from newer version to my 2011 Quicken

I love my 2011 Quicken. I have a disc. I do not have to pay any monthly charges. However, my autistic brother was talked into a subscription, and now when I need to do his taxes long distance, it becomes hairpulling. I know I did this last year, but I can't remember how. I think he exports to an Excel workbook or a txt file, but I've tried that and have no way to pull it into my version. I've even tried pasting transactions, but it won't let me do that either. The only import I have is QIF, and that won't work, because his is newer. HELP.. thanks

I don't remember what Quicken 2011 was like…just too long ago. And I don't understand what you mean by QIF “…his is newer.” But you might want to consider upgrading to Quicken 2013 Deluxe. It is my understanding that QIF export files from subscription can be imported into Quicken 2013.

You can download a free copy of Quicken 2013 Deluxe from Quicken 2013 for Windows.

There isn't anything special in Quicken 2013 over Quicken 2011 as far as importing a QIF goes.

But the mentioning statement about not being able to import a QIF file because if is from a newer version makes me believe that in fact this isn't a QIF, but is instead a QDF (Quicken data file). The QIF format hasn't change in decades and as such can be imported into new or older versions of Quicken. But you can't open a QDF/Quicken data file created by a newer version in an older version, and that is exactly why one would export/import QIF format. Unfortunately there are problems that go with importing QIF files, mostly because of transfers.

Note if the goal is only to do the taxes and not to get back to using the older version of Quicken then you might be looking for running a Tax report, and exporting that in the Tax format that some tax programs can import (it is a text file format).
