Getting setting up with financial institution

I have used One Step Update for years on my account. Suddenly it is not working. In Account Details on Online Setup it shows no financial institution. It wants me to set it up now. I go through the steps and it communicates with my bank like it is setting things up. No errors are shown. After it is done it states it has a large number of days worth of transactions and if I have used my phone to enter transactions in the Quicken App it will add those transactions but no transactions from my bank. In the Account Details General section it shows my financial institution. I am unable to remove or change that.

After completing the connection to set up the online features Online Setup in Account Details it still wants me to set up my bank. I have done this several times with no luck.

I have another Quicken file which downloads from the same bank which works with no issues.

Frustrated.

I got it to work for now. I imported a file from my bank manually. After which in the Online Services tab in Account Details showed my bank and then showed a link which said there were better ways to connect. It went through the set up. I had to do it twice then it shows Express Web Connect. It worked again this morning.

    Thanks to all.

So under the Online Services tab of Account Details you see:

but under the General tab the correct financial institution is shown there?

What does the Online Services tab look like after you go through the Set up Now… process? Is the Financial Institution properly shown there with the options to Deactivate and Reset?

"if I have used my phone to enter transactions in the Quicken App it will add those transactions but no transactions from my bank."

I take it that you're using the "Mobile" aspect of Quicken and what you're seeing with the download is that transactions entered using your phone are "Matched" in the download process but that transactions that you haven't previously entered but that have occurred with the bank are not downloading?

"In the Account Details General section it shows my financial institution. I am unable to remove or change that."

I don't understand why you'd want to "remove or change that" as my assumption was that the Financial Institution shown on the General tab of Account Details was correct.

Generally you can change or remove the Financial Institution information when you deactivate the Quicken Account from downloading.

The use of "Mobile" has been known to mess things up in some ways that are not fully understood (at least, not by me) and my impression is that most SuperUsers eschew the use of Mobile for that reason. There may be some aspect of "Mobile" in play here so maybe try turning off mobile and sync in that file, going over to Preferences and clicking "sign in as a different user" - which will result in all the cloud data associated with this data file will being removed - to see if that changes things for the better.

The Online Services tab of Account Details looks as you have shown. Once I go through the setup procedures, the Online Services tab remains as it is in your picture.

I have used the Mobile app for years without an issue. The transactions that I have entered do come into the desktop when I try to set up the bank. When complete it does add the transaction but it does not show any transactions to match in the Downloaded Transactions area. I go to reconcile transactions and it shows old uncleared items and not any newer entered transactions. I believe this is because the online balance has not updated. Even though the setup asks me to link my accounts from my bank to Quicken, it does not pull any transactions after that. Quicken knows that my checking account is linked to the correct Quicken account so it remembers that part.

    Thanks,

    Which bank?

    Which type of account?

Do you know what the connection method is supposed to be? Perhaps you can get this information from your other accounts with this bank that are already set up for download?

Are you getting any error codes or messages? If so, what are they?

The bank is First Merchants Bank and it is a checking account. I am not sure the connection method. On this file I only have one linked account. I have another file which works fine to the same bank. Those accounts are Web Connect. I get no error codes.

I'm glad you found that backdoor method to get connected for downloads from within Quicken. It can be really helpful when there are multiple listings for a financial institution because by manually downloading and importing the transactions file from the bank (this is called the Web Connect connection method) it will help to ensure that you are connecting with the correct one. Once WC is set up then you can upgrade the connection (if one is available) and Quicken will direct the connection upgrade to the correct financial institution download connection set up.

If you go to Add Account and type "Merchants Bank" in the search field you will see there are 50 different "Merchants Bank" listings (mostly tied to different regions/locations). Selecting the correct one for your account(s) is critical to getting a successful download connection set up. My guess it that by previously using Set Up Now to try to set up the download connection, you were either selecting or being directed to the wrong Merchants Bank listing and that will always result in a connection setup failure. Using WC, like you did, greatly simplifies the financial institution selection process in this type of scenario.
