TD Bank Refuses To Connect

Windows 10 PC 22H2 latest update.
Quicken Classic Home & Office R60.15

I'm in Canada, trying to link up my TD Bank account to Quicken. It just refuses to do it.
So I'm at about hour 10, in the past two weeks, carefully studying these forum posts and doing every single little fix that people suggest, and nothing is working. That's right, I've probably been at this problem for ten hours in total.

I get the "something went wrong, it's not your fault" message, no matter what I do.
If I manually download a .qfx webfile, it won't import either.

The forum posts get closed before I see any actual declaration that the service is back to working properly. People say TD Bank made a change that caused the problem, but that was back in July. Apparently I'm supposed to authorize Quicken in my TD Bank online settings. But there isn't any way to do that. It says to follow the third party instructions.

Then there is a link to a whole page of information warning about third parties scraping your bank data and how dangerous that is. Ok, so this issue looks malevolent to me. That this particular bank is blocking data transfers on purpose. There is no way an organization that big and experienced could possibly be this bad with a simple transfer of a basic text document. There is no way in 2024 that their computer techs are this incompetent. Not a chance. My TEN YEAR OLD NEICE CAN SEND AN EMAIL WITHOUT SUPERVISION!

Contrast this with my experience with YNAB in 2022, that took a whole of ten seconds to link up my bank account and download my data. So if you go by a rate of $30/hr I've paid $300 for Quicken so far, plus the full price, and I'm not even able to use it yet. Not to mention I've burned up almost a month of subscription fees.

    Hello @MoneyPrinterGoBrr,

Do you use a different email address for your QID than for the Quicken Community? I am attempting to investigate the internal error that you are receiving in order to provide further assistance. Please do not send any personal information here as this is a public forum.

    Let me know!

What does my Quicken Community credentials have to do with TD Bank? Are you an AI bot?

Would my blocked transactions have something to do with the Quicken system installing the wrong application on my computer?

You may be more aware of actual fixes if you weren't too busy censoring people for telling the truth.

Here is the "internal error" that I receive:

I wonder if - for some reason - your system is referencing the USA FIDIR.TXT instead of the Canadian one. If that were the case, it would block the connection to Canadian financial institutions. I pose this question because of the USA / CND version mix up you encountered.

    Hello @MoneyPrinterGoBrr,

No, I am not an "AI Bot". I am attempting to assist you with this issue. The error that you are seeing is external. Usually, we can see a more in-depth error message by looking at your user activity from within my database. When I use your email address within the Community, I cannot see any connections to banks—only your attempts to sign into your data file.

Another thing I noticed after looking at your account is that you have a subscription to Quicken for Windows US, however, you mentioned that you are operating from Canada correct?

This is an important question, because - with very few exceptions - the Canadian version of Quicken can only download from Canadian financial institutions and the US version can only download transactions from US financial institutions. It gets a bit confusing with financials such as TD that have Canadian and US operations, but the same is generally still true. For example, you need the USA version of Quicken to download from the US subsidiary of RBC and the Canadian version of Quicken to download from the Canadian parent.

We could sort through the specifics of this issue IF we understood exactly which version of Quicken is in play and exactly which financial institution is in play.

I'm not seeing a reply button anywhere, so this comment is for Jasmine.

I'm in Canada and so I have no idea why it would sign me up for a USA subscription. I don't remember seeing a country option on the sign up page.
You are not seeing me linked to any bank because it didn't work. So it can't be linked if it didn't link.

So I'm pretty sure that I have the wrong application and the wrong subscription somehow.
I think what I would need is the Canadian version of the program and a Canadian subscription. And hopefully a reset of the one year deadline for the recurring fee, as I haven't been able to use the program yet.

I didn't even know TD Bank was an American bank until recently. They merged with Canada Trust a long time ago. So in Canada it's called TD Canada Trust. The TD literally means "Toronto Dominion", so I have no idea what's going on.

The webmaster should have a look at the layout of the product page; how this kind of mistake could happen. If a Canadian needs a particular sign up, I don't think it's set up properly to guide us to the right place.

    Hello @MoneyPrinterGoBrr,

To get you to have the QWIN Canada subscription and application, I suggest contacting Quicken Support directly. This is so they can refund you for the U.S. subscription and get you set up with the Canadian one. The Quicken Support phone number can be found through this link here. Phone support is available from 5:00 am PT to 5:00 pm PT, Monday through Friday.

I apologize that I could not be of more assistance!

I called Quicken support on the phone. He confirmed that I have an American subscription.
This was my mistake; I started off on the wrong website entirely. I was supposed to sign up on the Quicken.com/Canada site, but didn't realize that.

He gave me a refund and I will delete out the program from my computer and start over.
Although I didn't even realize the cost was in USD. Yes I didn't realize these things. This is why I need a budgeting app. 😂 I need adult supervision.
This currency conversion is killing me (as it always does).
I thought the intro offer was $65 but it's $95 CAD. And then it will be $180 a year! That's an insane subscription fee for a glorified excel spreadsheet.

Some people spend $90 a month to use Adobe products and that just boggles my mind. The USA just uprooted their government over economic issues and they on average spend $300 a month in subscription fees (you got to be kidding me). A bunch of geniuses over there.
I just checked and the YNAB subscription went up, so it's comparable to Quicken. So looks like I got to cough up the dough or I'm out of luck.
I'm going to have another look at this, to see if it's even worth it at this point. The 69 cent conversion almost doubles the cost of this.

Good ol Canada. No point having a budgeting app when you got nothing to put in it cause you live in a nation that completely lost its marbles.

Not sure where you are getting those prices. The Quicken subscription cost ranged from $4.50 - $10 CAD for the Canadian version; i.e. the most expensive is $120 a year. The USA version is priced in USD. The Canadian version is pricing in CAD.

As for the "glorified spreadsheet"… Quicken has a lot of functionality that would be enormously time consuming to replicate in a spreadsheet. Could it be done. Yah, sort-of, maybe, depending on how many of the features you need to build into you spreadsheet. Evidently, the value proposition depends on your use case. I use enough of the functionality in Quicken that it would be far too costly for me to be building the required functionality in a spreadsheet.

Yup you're right. I just did the math in my head when I was typing out my last comment, before actually seeing the Canadian site. I'm on a roll with jumping to conclusions.

So I'm up and running now. It's working beautifully. I didn't get an intro subscription offer or even get the one month free trial, but close enough.
I think that I already had an account so it skipped the free trial offer. So that would be me paying my stupid tax (the tax you gotta pay for being stupid).

Thanks for the help all you people. I'll be back to rant about other stuff. Starting with the mysterious lack of a dark mode.
