Tangerine and manual import via .QFX gives "Download unavailable!" error. How do I workaround this?

Quicken Canada Subscription Member ✭✭

If I login to my Tangerine account through the bank's interface, and download the QFX file (which guarantees me the latest data), why do I get this error message when attempting to import into Quicken. I have tried to do this in a new instance of a Quicken file and get the same error.

I have had consistent issues with the Quicken Connect method. These issues require me to 2FA continually for 2 accounts up to 6 times, sometimes multiple times per week. I am tired of this and would rather just download the data from the bank directly and import the provided QFX file.

How do I make this work for Tangerine bank?

I am happy to manually edit the <FI> </FI> string or other hacks that allow me to get those transactions and move them manually into the right accounts. That is still easier than constantly re-adding my credentials and 2FA'ing over and over…

The issues I have with Tangerine bank and Quicken stem from GIC accounts that come and go as they come to term, and this changes the ordering of my accounts and seems to trip up Quicken often requiring re-adding EVERYTHING. I've done troubleshooting with Quicken support multiple times around this. The answere is always rip and replace the account info and this is super tedious, esp for 2 accounts, with multiple 2FA's required.

I want to import a QFX file. How can I work around the above error since I can see the data in the file!

Thanks for any help. This is super frustrating. I've read the CC-885 error pages but it doesn't help. Surely you can import the data that exists in that QFX file somehow!

It looks like Tangerine doesn't support Web Connect, they only support Express Web Connect (which is part of Quicken Connect on the Mac). So you'd have to select the Quicken Connect option when connecting your account & let Quicken download the data for your account rather than downloading a file yourself & importing it to Quicken.

The issue is that the Express Web Conect option is EXTREMELY unreliable. It is down frequently.

I do not want to use it anymore as I have spent literally hours reconnecting my account over and over over again. It works for maybe 3-4 days and then either mine or my partners account will need to be fully re-added. This is not sustainable.

It seems odd you can't import from a file when all of the data is clearly in the QFX file.

Is there a way to change some of the info in the QFX file header to a generic bank. I've seen this suggested in other posts.

The info in that file is not encrypted, and it seems odd that Tangerine would offer it as a QFX file which is a Quicken format, and you can't use it.

Why is this needlessly complicated? I want the option to import the data manually as it is quicker and more reliable.

Tangerine, I could never used QFX download, it always was Quicken Connect

Tangerine, is not really taking care of their web page ( most likely their attention is more on the mobile app ); e.g. always have to enter security code even If I chose "do nit use on this computer", going through buying a GIC is painful when it does work; customer service is absent, etc…

So I am closing my accounts with them.

I was with ING which became Tangerine but today there are alternatives to online banking

@dunkvan "Is there a way to change some of the info in the QFX file header to a generic bank. I've seen this suggested in other posts."

Yes. Look inside the FIDIR.TXT file within Quicken and pick an ID for an FI that lists they support Web Connect. Then replace the INTU.BID in the .qfx file you downloaded with this ID. Then the file should import.

Note that you will have to replace INTU.BID in the file with the same ID each time from then on.

Another day, another 5-10 minutes putting in credentials and 2FA 3x for each account.

This is why manual imports are better.

This happens every 2-4 days now.
