One Step Update - How can I Identify accounts that did not download

Here is my scenario - I am sure this may have been answered before, but my search did not get the answer I was looking for.
I just a missed a payment for a Citicard. I run the one step update every morning and review my downloads. Over the last 12 months, I have noticed that some accounts will stop downloading without warning. I have caught most of them but missed this one last month. The one step update completes without errors, but it had stopped downloading since early Jan. I had to reauthorize the citi accounts to restart the downloads
I don't have a problem reauthorizing or resetting the accounts but is there a way I can
- Identify the accounts that did not download or
- a last downloaded information somewhere
- something somewhere in quicken that tells me - it is time to reauthorize your accounts.
Sorry if this has been answered before…

Hi @ghkr,
Yes there is a way to see the "last downloaded information" for your connected accounts.
Go to: "Tools" > "One Step Update Summary" > On this screen look at the three dots - … that will appear in a right hand column. If you hover over those three dots - it will show that last date and time that account was downloaded.
You also can go to the "Account List" and easily see the same information in the "Last Download" column, for each of your connected accounts.

Thanks Frankkx. My One Step Update summary has just one line - "One step update complete" and a link to quotes and the account list only has the last reconcile and not the last the last downloaded.
Appreciate the help

Hi again @ghkr
That is odd. Which version of Quicken are you running? Also, do you remember a time when those three dots DID appear?
On the Account List" screen - please click on the "Options" button at the bottom of the page. Then make sure that the "Show last downline time" is checked. Then, make sure that you move the bottom bar to make sure you can see all columns.

Thanks again.
I am running R61.17 Build 27.1.61.17 - should be the latest download (auto allowed). I do remember the days when all the accounts would be listed and I would know it was successful - it must have changed recently
Thank You for the Account list idea, I had completely forgotten about the options button at the bottom. I now have that column and ran an update just now. A few of them have the last download date (but in 2024), most of the remaining (95+%) has a "Not available". I will watch that column over the next couple days. If it updates, it serves my purpose - I have to make it a habit to check it once in a while.0 -
Hi again @ghkr
From what you've said above, I believe that the accounts that show "Not available" are actually not setup for downloading. In other words, somehow they were disconnected and will not download at all.
How long have you had these issues? If it is recently, your best bet of fixing things would likely be to revert to a backup file that is dated prior to when the problems first started.

@Frankx - I download everyday. I just completed a download today and reviewed the downloaded transactions (the accounts are connected and downloading). The "Last Download" still says "Not Available". I am leaning towards creating a new file but there are some recommendations in the community to delete a "runtime.dat" file - I can't find that either.
Thanks for helping out.

@ghkr do you have a Reminder set up for the credit card payment? A Reminder does not rely on transaction downloads, so even if your transactions fail to download, you’ll still have an indication that the credit card payment is due.

@mshiggins - Thank You. Yes, I do have reminders for all of them, but I have to now login to the CC site and confirm that the amount in quicken is the right amount that I have to pay. For this scenario, Quicken said I owe nothing since it had not downloaded transactions for a whole month :(
Support was not very helpful, they asked me to create a new file and work with it. I have a test file, and I still don't see the download info, I reinstalled quicken and used the old file, I am not seeing the info. I must have corrupted something; I don't want to start from "0"

See if this comment about how to find runtime.dat helps:

Thank You mshiggins.
For the life of me I can't find runtime.dat - I even created an empty runtime.dat - with no luck
A new copy in the same data directory did not work
A new copy in a new directory did not work
A complete reset and reconnect of the accounts in the old data file or the new data file did not workI finally bit the bullet and created a brand new file and added my first account, the "Last download" shows up - I still can't find the runtime.dat. I am trying to figure out if I should live without this feature or start from scratch and lose all my information

I have also been having the problem with the One Step Update (OSU) results page not showing any of my accounts and the Last Download column in the Account list showing Not Available for all of my accounts.
I was able to rename my runtime.dat file and that fixed both problems.
What has prevented you from finding your runtime.dat file?
If you can't find the C:\ProgramData folder, as @Quicken Kristina notes, it is hidden by default. In Windows 11 Windows Explorer, click on View then Show and select Hidden items to show the hidden folders. You may also need to select File name extensions under Show to see the ".dat" part of the file.
In ProgramData\Quicken\INET, there should be a folder that has the same name as each of your Quicken data files. If you don't see your QDF file name, look in each folder to find the one that has runtime.dat with the date and time of your last OSU and rename that. If you have ever renamed the data file that has the problems, the folder will still have the original name of the file. For me the folder is QDATA, which is (or was 25 years ago) the default Quicken file name.
Good luck! Please let us know if you were able to find the correct runtime.dat file and if renaming it fixed the problem.

@ghkr - You had mentioned making new copies but it is not clear to me exactly what those new copies are of and what you did to make those new copies. Did you do File > Copy or Backup File > Create a Copy or Template > Next > use the defaulted file name (the file name with CPY added to the end of it) or create a different unique file name for it > Save Copy?
If not, you might want to try doing that because the copied file it creates will have a new data file ID, Cloud Account ID and a new runtime.dat file for it. In addition to eliminating a possible runtime.dat file issue it can sometimes resolve some other data file issues that might exist. If you want to proceed down this path:
- Before proceeding, it is recommended that you enter and save the Opening Balance transaction dollar amount into the Memo field for each Spending account (i.e., checking, savings, credit card, etc.). Then backup the data file. (This is a 1X proactive troubleshooting step that can come in very handy if/when the Opening Balance transaction dollar amount ever gets changed when setting up or changing the account connection method).
- After completing the Create a Copy process, open the copied file.
- All accounts in the copied file will no longer be connected for downloading. Do Add Account for each account you want set up for downloading, making sure when prompted to Link the downloaded data to the accounts that already exist in Quicken.

@ghkr I have read many many posts from users whose transaction download reports success but the transactions don’t actually download. So even if you get the last download date display to work, you still might miss transactions. If you want to be sure to not miss a payment, I would still login to the credit card website to check your balance.
An alternative I have used for years is online bill presentment via the BofA website. I get e-bills that tell me the due date, amount due, and include a PDF statement. Making the payment is easy, just a click or two. I can even choose to pay from my Fidelity brokerage account. All from the BofA website.

Thank You for the detailed explanation. I use onedrive to store my data files and unlike what users said/Katrina said, I did not have a folder with the filename in C:/Programdata/…./Inet/"data file name/ - I have no idea why. This did change when I created a brand-new file, I now have a folder with the new file name as well as a Runtime.dat containing the information about the checking account that i was testing for download.
I was correct about not finding a Runtime.dat but You are right when that new file was created it automatically created a runtime.dat. I will continue fiddling around - thanks for the patience

Jim: one question. If I create a copy of the existing file. it has a new name, Should it not create a new folder with this name under C:/ProgramData/*** ? It is not creating a new folder ( none of my olde files have a folder out there). A brand new file (From scratch) did create the folder.
Is my installation bad?

As I noted earlier, I think creating a copy of your data file does not create a new folder in C:\ProgramData\Quicken\Inet. In my case, I have renamed my data file and the runtime.dat file is in the QDATA folder. You should look through all the folders in INET for a runtime.dat that has a timestamp that matches the last time you did a one step update.
Also it is dangerous to use OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or another cloud storage system to store your QDF files. It may work most of the time, but the only supported configuration is to keep any data files that are currently in use on your local hard drive. It is safe to keep backups in a folder controlled by OneDrive or another cloud storage system.
