Amex accounts won't update

I have several Amex credit card accounts in Quicken. Some are under my login with Amex, others with my wife's login. I cannot download transactions from both using One Step Update. Only one of the two works. I can download transactions for the one that doesn't work by reauthorizing the account. When doing that, I receive a message that "Account AMEX-xxx was not found at American Express. You should disable this account from One Step Update." The account cited in this message is under the other login. After reauthorizing the account that would not download, I get the transactions. However, the other account/login will not download until I reauthorize it. When I do that, the other login won't download. Rinse, repeat. Essentially, I am yo-yoing back and forth between the two separate logins. How does this get fixed?

    Hello @birdiefour,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Based on what you've described, it seems like Quicken may be treating the two separate American Express accounts under different logins as if they’re linked, causing the back-and-forth reauthorization loop. This could be due to a mix-up with how the accounts are identified within One Step Update, especially when they’re both trying to update at the same time.

Has this issue only started after a recent update to Quicken, or was it happening before? When you reauthorize one account, does it seem like Quicken is mistakenly associating both accounts with the same login, or is it just that the second account won’t download until the first one is reauthorized? Do you notice any other accounts or services causing similar issues, or is it only with these specific American Express accounts? It might also help to know if both logins are set up in Quicken separately, or if there’s any chance the system is accidentally linking them together somehow.

    Let me know!

Try this: Deactivate all cards in both AmEx accounts.
Delete all AmEx account and routing numbers on the General tab of Account Details for all AmEx cards.
Go to Tools>Add Account and add one account under American Express.
Go back to Tools>Add Account and add the second account under American Express - Delegate. You will find American Express - Delegate by typing in American Express on the Add Account window. By the time you get to the "r" in Express you will see the American Express - Delegate option appear towards the bottom of about eight other AmEx log in options. Use it for your second account. You will be able to use the same user ID and password to log into American Express - Delegate that you have been using to log into American Express.
