Erroneously purchased new subscriber version of deluxe that is non-returnable. Any options?

I purchased a new subscriber version of Quicken Deluxe by mistake, and it is non-returnable and exchangeable. I'm looking for options on how to use what was purchased. One thought was to use a different email address and setup a new account. Would this work? I should be able to open my current data file, but I'm concerned about my reports and other options I'm currently using. I'm only using Quicken on my laptop and not the Mobile & Web options. Are there any other options?

Thanks

So you bought it from a retailer? Has it been within the last 30 days?

If so, you might want to contact Quicken Support to discuss getting a refund. That "non-returnable and exchangeable" bit is a common with retailers because most retailers now only provide the activation code and they cannot be guaranteed that the buyer did not use the activation code and is really just attempting to defraud the seller.

Quicken has a no-questions-asked full refund policy provided the purchase was made within the last 30 days. Quicken Support should be able to confirm that for you and help you get that refund, especially if you will or did purchase a correct subscription renewal. Just make sure you contact Quicken Support at Contact us.

Yes, this is possible. How much of a hassle it will be depends on how much online services you use, it will not affect your reports and other options selected in the data file.

The Quicken ID is the link to the Quicken Cloud dataset, which in turn links to various online services like downloading transactions, online bills, online backup, … And potentially cost more if for instance you paid for online backup connected to that Quicken ID.

These will have to be setup again.

Do also note that you can't extend your current subscription, so you would want to do this close to when it expires. The new subscriber license should be valid for up to a year.

    1. Create a new Quicken ID.
    2. In Quicken -
      1. Choose Edit menu →Preferences
      2. In the left pane, select Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts.
      3. In the right pane, under Quicken Profile, click Sign in as a different User.
      4. In the Sign in as a different user dialog, enter yes to confirm.
      5. Select Sign Out.
      6. Sign back in with your new Quicken ID.
    3. You might get a message to confirm the ownership of the file. Just confirm that the new Quicken ID is the new owner.
    4. Click on Help → Manage your Subscription → Enter Activation Code, and then enter your activation code you received with the new Quicken purchase.

Everything should remain intact. Since you do not use Mobile and Web, that access is not an issue.

The only issue I see is if your subscription is not close to the expiration date, then you will "lose" that time you paid for. Installing this new subscription will not extend your subscription period. Activating this new subscription close to the expiration date of the current subscription might be a good idea.

Just for reference, I did this on the last time I renewed because I could get the biggest discount that way. The only online services I use is downloading transactions. And all I needed to do was reauthorize my Express Web Connect + accounts.

@Chris_QPW that is interesting. The last time I did this I didn't have any EWC+ accounts, so maybe that is the reason why I don't remember having to reconnect or reactivate any accounts. It was a while ago, so maybe I am not remembering correctly.

When you change Quicken IDs you get a different Quicken Cloud dataset, and both Express Web Connect and Express Web Connect + flow through it. In fact, they use the same "Sync" as Quicken Mobile/Web do, not to mention it is used to cache transactions there too.

Thanks for all of your replies. I have contacted Quicken Support and have filled out a refund form. We'll see where that goes. If they don't provide a refund, I'll create a new Quicken ID. I'm not using any of the download services, so the Quicken Cloud dataset should be of no concern. My current subscription expired three days ago, so that is why I made the hasty purchase without noticing the "New subscription". Thanks again for your help.
