Rereconcile account: can no longer switch out transactions (linked vs not linked)
In the past, I could re-reconcile a given monthly transaction series entirely. I could then re-add a transaction wrongly deleted or select the correct transaction linked to another account.
"Reconcile History" no longer works for this.
For example, sometimes one selects the wrong listed transaction when reconciling: two identical transactions (Visa payment), but only one linked to the relevant account (checking). One was downloaded from the bank. The other created when reconciling the other (checking) account.
The error may be discovered only later.
"Linked" refers to the transfer of funds between accounts.
Here I want to re-reconcile switching out the unlinked downloaded transaction for the linked version. That way I don't mess up reconciliation in the other linked account (checking).
I used to be able to do so, with a prior Quicken version. But it does not seem possible. Rather, I must undo all reconciled months up to the month in question, and start over. No fun.

Hello @xxxx,
Thank you for sharing your experience. When did you first notice this change in behavior? Do you recall the last version of Quicken you used where it allowed you to edit reconciles without first having to undo every month's reconcile up to that one? What happens when you try to re-reconcile without first undoing the months up to that one?
If possible, please include screenshots of what you are seeing, with any personal information redacted. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
I look forward to your response!

Hi Krista,
I am a Mac user who has used Quicken since the early 1990's. I cannot recall which version it was.
In the past, I could re-reconcile a month anew, see and select/deselect the individual transactions to make corrections. Once reconciled, the results would impact all subsequent reconciliations. Thus, if I reconciled wrong, it would (rightly) throw off the later reconciliations.
Why might I want to reconcile in this way? Because of fund transfer and links to other accounts. Not changing the payment or credit amounts.

Thank you for your reply,
Is this happening in connected accounts, or accounts that you manually update? What happens when you try to re-reconcile an older reconcile without first undoing the reconciles leading up to it? Do you see any error messages? At what point does it not let you proceed? Does this happen only when trying to edit linked transactions like transfers?
Thank you!

Before staring a Reconcile process, have you processed all downloaded transactions and made sure that the downloaded transactions have been correctly matched to already existing register transactions?
Sometimes Quicken may not be able to automatically match and merge a downloaded transaction to an already existing register transaction. In that case you need to manually drag the downloaded transaction over the one that's already in the register. This gets rid of apparently duplicate transactions and makes sure that categorization and other details present in the register transaction prevail, especially in the case of transfer transactions.0
