Nordstrom Credit Card Requires Multifactor Authentication EVERY TIME
The title basically says it all… I'm using Quicken Classic Deluxe (8.2.1) on my iMac (OS 15.5), and literally every time I update my accounts I'm prompted by Quicken that I need to obtain a password to update my Nordstrom credit card. This is getting tiresome. Why is my Nordstrom credit card now requiring this additional multifactor authentication literally every time I download using a known, authorized method? Any fix for this?

Hello @ntrainer,
Thanks for reaching out!
- When the MFA prompt appears, is it asking for a one-time code (like text/email), security question, or something else?
- Have you recently changed any login security settings on your Nordstrom/TD Bank online account—such as enabling a stricter MFA policy?
- Does the same behavior happen if you try updating from a different, trusted device on the same network?
- Are any other TD Bank–issued cards or accounts in your file behaving the same way?
Just so you're aware: the multi-factor authentication prompt comes directly from the financial institution’s servers—Quicken doesn’t control when or how often it's required, nor do we have access to bypass or store those credentials. Some banks require re-authentication every session, especially if they've recently updated their security protocols.

Jasmine, it requires MFA authentication each time you download. It also downloads only 1 transaction and skips others. Not sure what the issue is but it Quicken is not trustworthy for downloading Nordstrom card on Quicken for Mac

I have had the same very upsetting problem where it stops my one step update so I can enter the 2FA verification 6 digit code every single time. This has been going on for months. I have had to disable the Nordstrom card from my one step update. I waited about 3 months and tried it again this week and it still happens. I basically cannot use one step update for this card and regularly have to sign into the card account and add transactions manually. I hate it.

Thanks for joining this thread.
Have you attempted to contact Nordstrom at all? The 2-factor authentication requirements do come directly from the financial institution and their servers, which Quicken does not have access to. I do suggest requesting to speak with either the banking or aggregator departments, as they are generally more familiar with third-party applications such as Quicken.
I hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes!

I'm also finding Quicken/Norstrom problematic. Besides the need to get a verification code every single time, I'm also experiencing the same download issues (downloading values with wrong signs (ie. credits reported as charges and vice versa). Additionally, this also affects reconciling as well and I've found no way correct for this. My guess is it is Norstrom's fault, but I haven't been able to speak to anyone there who's technical enough to be helpful. Very frustrating.

Hello @Rick4,
Thank you for sharing these additional details. I can understand how frustrating it must be to have both the MFA requirement each session and transaction sign errors affecting reconciliation.
The MFA prompt is being triggered directly by Nordstrom/TD Bank’s servers, and unfortunately Quicken cannot bypass or store those credentials if their policy is to require verification each time. This typically occurs when the bank enforces session-based authentication, especially after recent security updates.
The transaction sign reversal is a separate matter — when credits appear as debits or vice versa, it’s often due to how the financial institution is formatting data in the download feed. Since this is not something Quicken can alter in-transit, the most effective route would be to:
- Contact Nordstrom’s online banking support, and request escalation to a technical team or “aggregator/third-party access” group.
- Provide them with specific examples of the sign discrepancies and note that they are occurring when downloading into Quicken.
- Let them know you are also encountering MFA every time and ask if they have an option to “remember device” or extend trusted session duration.
Please let me know how it goes!

This is 1000% on Quicken. Yes, the bank/cc requires MFA when you log in. BUT, once you do it once, in Quicken, there is no way to say "remember this device". When I logged in with a new browser (Chrome), it asked for MFA. I entered it AND clicked on "remember this device". I know dont need MFA every time. I tested this by deleting all cookies in Safari and doing the same. First time logging on? MFA required. Clicked save this device and no longer need it.
So this is absolutely on Quicken as there is no option to "remember this device" to have Nordstrom remember the internal browser Quicken is using.0 -

Sorry, that's an incorrect conclusion. The financial institution needs to allow Quicken to bypass their multi-factor authentication each time; if they don't, there's nothing Quicken can do. The way Quicken connects to financial institutions is different than the way we do as consumers with web browsers.
