Backups on Flashdrive

I've been doing backups to a folder on my computer and then saving them to a flash drive. Needless to say I have a lot of files. Can I delete the older ones from the folder and the flash drive or is there a reason I might need to save them?

    Hello @Linda,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Whether to keep older backups is really a personal choice. By default, Quicken only keeps the last five backups, but if you’ve been saving more than that, it’s up to you how many you want to retain. Deleting older files from both your computer and flash drive won’t affect your current Quicken data, as long as you still have at least some recent backups in case you ever need to restore.

    Thank you!

    I agree - personal choice.

I make a backup almost every time I close Quicken. Some keep backups within the last month, month end and year end backups. Find a strategy that works for you.

Like many other things in this life, it's a "Cost vs Benefit" decision.

The cost is disk/drive space. Just how many backups CAN you keep before that Flashdrive get full?

The Benefit is that if the most current (or several recent) backups are corrupt (because the corruption was there for a while before it became severe) you can go back a bit further until you find one that works. It's not at all uncommon for new Q features to stumble over data errors that weren't previously an issue.
