Thanks to @boatnmaniac I finally have DC back with Fidelity and it's been working perfectly . However, today it won't update, says error 16503 - Error from Fidelity Systems Mac. Does anyone know what this means?

    Hello @SCPat,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Fidelity recently started a system update that temporarily affects account updates in Quicken. The error you’re seeing (16503 on Mac) is related to that update and doesn’t indicate a problem with your data or Quicken itself.

The best next step is to dismiss the error and try the online account update again, then follow any prompts to re-authenticate your accounts. This should allow your accounts to complete the update as expected.

We’re still monitoring this, but the issue is part of the cutover process Fidelity is performing.

    Thank you!

Ok, it's been several hours and it still isn't updating. What does 'cutover process' mean?

  • Quicken Anja
    Quicken Anja Moderator mod

@SCPat The “cutover process” refers to Fidelity gradually moving accounts from the old Direct Connect method to a newer system called Express Web Connect+. So far, this migration was optional, but Fidelity has now started the process of making it mandatory for all accounts.

During this transition, some accounts may temporarily show errors like 16503. We now also have this Community Alert regarding this error that provides additional information. The best approach is to dismiss the error, wait, and try the account update again later, and follow any prompts to re-authenticate.

    Hope this clarifies things!

@Quicken Anja Thanks for the explanations, but those leave me a bit confused.

I have been sticking with Fidelity DC connections until more confidence around the EWC+ transition. Working just fine until today with 16503.

    Are you saying:

    1. This is it. Now is the time I MUST convert to EWC+ even though no official cut-over deadline? Or not. Or that the error may correct itself later today.
    2. If the former, should I click the reauthorize in the dialog I see at OSU where I normally click "remind me later"? Or wait for, as you say, a FIX IT I am not seeing now? 9Mac is my issue today. Windows still working on DC)
    3. Anything else to know? Simple vs Complete? Cash account vs ETF?
    4. Will errors that show from the change "self heal" or will I need to reach out for instructions on how to "clean" the accounts to match to the DC registers

Today is a very important Fidelity day for me and I'd like to be up and running in the next few hours.

    Thanks

Well, no reply so I thought I would bite the bullet and do the EWC+ transition. All went about as expected or better. Got offered the proper links, complete tracking. All previous transactions looked good. Even did my Credit Card although that had been EWC+ for some time and had no issues.

But then on OSU, neither investment account connects with the same error!!!???

Now what? I can revert back to a DC backup or I can sit here and wait? @Quicken Anja or @Quicken Kristina - what do you advice.

    Note the HTTP-429 error….

Customer ID appears to be "unavailable" on all my Quicken Connect accounts that are using EWC+. I would assume that's because of the way EWC+ works - since Quicken doesn't have access to your login credentials they don't know the user name you log in with. And since EWC+ is download only, you can't upload any transactions so the transfer field is also marked unavailable.

    Interesting @Jon thanks. Makes sense.

So are you able to connect to Fidelity Investments via EWC+ today? I am not matching the iPhone app at all and getting those connection errors. Unsure whether restoring to DC would be a good move or not.

I haven't tried setting up a Quicken Connect to Fidelity today, my existing Fidelity setup has been working fine so no need to mess with it.

Last week, with the amazingly patient @boatnmaniac, I finally figured out how to get back to DC. The QC for Fidelity in my experience was horrible. Gain/loss on Fidelity mutual funds showed on the following day, instead of the day of gain/loss. An additional cash account was added in all my Fidelity accounts, making it a duplicate of 'cash' as previously reported. It was so unpleasant. Now, I'm back to DC, all funds within my accounts are reporting perfectly and accurately….until today. I'm not going to rush and click on update to QC again, it took too long to recreate from an old quicken back up. I'm now googling to learn about competing financial programs, this is getting annoying.

Well, I have a backup with DC from this morning. i would think that would not be hard. Just do not know what route is going to be less painful.

Typically, DC should be. I had to go to a DC backup 3 months old, 500+ transactions to update. I'm not doing anything right now, except for checking out other programs that AI says are excellent alternatives to Quicken. Hopefully, the DC connection will be restored and I can continue. There is NO WAY, I would ever go through the QC again, no one could help me at Quicken when I called either.

Did I mention Quicken Windows with Fidelity DC is not updating either? No error messages but a transaction that cleared this morning in the Fidelity app is not showing up. So maybe an issue there as well.

Just had my first successful connection with MAC EWC+ to fidelity. Did not grab the transaction I expect, but no errors. First time.

And transaction in but miscategprized. Talking about the categorization errors in another thread. But happy the connection is working and seemingly functioning.

This disconnect with Fidelity has been going on since mid-August and we are no closer toa resolution than we were six weeks ago.

I agree but for me it's been since the end of July. Quicken still won't let me update with DC unless I switch to QC. Interestingly, I pull an old backup out and I get that same dialog box about Fidelity switching, but for my BofA accounts and a couple dept store credit cards - so 'everyone' is switching or is it Quicken is forcing the switch. The latter is what I believe. I'm researching several other financial management options I found from Google AI. I'll probably run a couple simultaneously to see which I like best. I hope Quicken will backoff on the QC but it doesn't look like it.

Four of my six Fidelity accounts connected to the new system normally, and all six show they're connected after I go through the process (I'm on Mac). But two accounts still won't connect after repeated attempts over the past couple weeks.

None of my DC Fidelity accounts will connect unless I navigate to the QC, which I did in the past and there were so many errors…

Here's an interesting piece of info: I downloaded a free 30 day trial of [Removed - 3rd Party Software], no credit card needed for trial. I only set up 2 Fidelity accounts and they offer DC AND they reference the DC with Quicken! So, it appears Fidelity doesn't have an issue with DC….

And, why did I have to update my BofA and dept store accounts - they all had DC connections…

    Hello All,

Thanks for sharing your experiences and updates. As mentioned in earlier posts, Fidelity recently began their mandated cutover of transitioning accounts from Direct Connect to Express Web Connect+, which can result in temporary errors like 16503.

Please refer to this Community Alert regarding this update for any and all available information.

We understand this transition can be frustrating, and we appreciate your patience while Fidelity, Bank of America, and Merrill Lynch accounts complete the cutover process.

    Thank you!
