    Hello @ispoton2,

    Thanks for reaching out!

To help us better understand what’s happening, could you share a bit more detail about the issue you’re running into when opening the QFX file from your file manager?

    Specifically:

    • What exactly happens when you try to open the QFX file—does nothing occur, does Quicken open but not import, or do you see an error message?
    • If there is an error, could you provide the exact wording or code?
    • Are you able to open any QFX files normally, or is it only certain ones?

The workaround you mentioned (File > Import > Quicken Transfer Format) does help narrow things down, so any additional details you can share will be useful for troubleshooting further.

    Thank you!

When I double click the QFX file in file manager a pop up box comes up saying 'There are Quicken components currently open, and can not be uninstalled. Pleas close Quicken and try uninstalling again' I press the OK button.

A popup box comes up with a header C:\'UserName'\Checking1 (1).qfx.

In the box is an x in a red circle with the letters AD follow by what looks like Chinese symbols.

Check the association that Windows uses when a .QFX file is double clicked on. Looking for something similar to a .txt file triggers Notepad to open it.

    From Windows Help:

    Associate files using Settings

    1. [ignore this step] Copy the file that is opening incorrectly to your desktop
    2. Right-click on the file and choose Properties

On the General tab, next to Type of file, it will show what type of file it is, within parenthesis. For example, (.docx) or (.pdf) or (.csv)

The Opens with shows you which app it is currently associated with. To have this type of file open in a different app:

    1. Select Change
    2. Choose More apps
    3. Choose the desired app and select the checkbox to always use this app
    4. Select OK

I am having the exact same problem.

While quicken is open, when I download and run, or double click on the qfx file, a dialog box comes up that says "Please wait while Windows configures Quicken". Then it pops up a dialog on top that says "There are Quicken components currently open, and cannot be uninstalled. Please close Quicken, and try uninstalling again.". Finally an error dialog says User cancelled installation.

If Quicken is not open, and I double click on the qfx file, the dialog box still comes up that says "Please wait while Windows configures Quicken". But this time it is gathering information. Then a dialog comes up that says The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Quicken.msi" in the box below."

The use source: text box is preloaded with: C:\Users\{myProfile}\AppData\Local\Temp\pft1B1.tmp\DISK1\

I hit cancel and it says "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Quicken. The Windows Installer cannot continue". And finally an error dialog saying "Fatal error during installation".

This is not a file association, but to make sure I checked. My file association is correct. If I select the qfx file and right mouse click, the open icon is Quicken or it says Open with Quicken

This is not related to the contents of the qfx file, so it the source of the file is irrelevant. I created a dummy qfx file and got the same behavior.

If I manually upload via File | Import | Web Connect (.QFX) File… it imports fine. So the content is OK.

I did not try File | Import | Quicken Transfer Format (.QFX) File…

Hopefully this provide additional helpful information.

    Hello @SteveInReno,

Thanks for chiming in! Based on what you described, it sounds like you’re experiencing a known issue with QFX files, as outlined in this Community Alert. Our teams are actively working on a resolution, though we don’t have an ETA at this time.

In the meantime, as noted in the Alert, many users have resolved the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken.

    I hope this helps!
