Multiple accounts corrupted when opening Quicken
In the past week I have multiple accounts display the wrong balances and transactions. My credit card account shows no transactions at all. I can go back to a backup from the day before and everything is fine. I can leave Quicken open for days and everything stay fine. I was even able to close Quicken today, open it back up, allow it to update to R65.17 (Windows Classic build 27.1.65.17) and everything stay fine. But this most recent time I closed it and re-opened it later, the old corruption returned.
My QDATA.QDF file is about 200MB.
I've restored again from the last good backup. Quicken is showing me that is has the backup file open. File Explorer shows me the backup file that's been opened and my original QDATA.QDF have the same "Date Modified" time stamp. I'm afraid to close Quicken again.
I see lots of concerns on this forum, which is troubling. I don't know how long this restore-from-backup is going to work. I really need Quicken to work. I've relied on it for years.
Is there a way to get out of this restore loop I'm in?

Have you validated and super validated the data file(s)?

I tried "validating" and it only made things worse. I'm not sure the value in going back and flagging really old transactions that involved moving money b/t accounts that no longer exist. It certainly wouldn't help a credit card account that no longer shows any transactions and a balance nowhere near the actual balance.

Hello @HelpQuickHelpMe,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I have some follow-up questions for you.
- Where is your data file located?
- Is your file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like OneDrive, Carbonite, or Dropbox?
Looking forward to your response.

My computer has a Samsung SSD drive. DB file is saved to my user profile directory on the local C:\ drive.
I do use Carbonite. The directory where the database file is saved is selected for backup by Carbonite.

I can no longer import qfx files. I uninstalled and re-installed Quicken and now all transactions are gone from ALL of my banking accounts (again). I guess I'll see if I can restore back to another backup.
Tried to validate/repair file. Only made it worse. I lost every transaction since 7/1/2024 for every account.
I believe this started after the most recent Quicken update (which was likely re-applied after I re-installed tonight).
I will begin searching for an alternative to Quicken. This is not something I can continue to tolerate.

Thank you for following up, though I am sorry you are experiencing so many issues.
I think that we may have a combination of things happening here. There is definitely a Known Issue with importing QFX files in R65.15 & R65.17. The uninstall, reinstall is what should fix this, as you stated you already tried.
I think the bigger issue here is that your data file may be damaged. I would suggest finding a viable backup and moving it to the default location, which is C:>Users>username>Documents>Quicken. Once it is there, make sure it is not included in any sync or backup of Carbonite, or anything else. It is fine to have your backups saved on cloud services or backed up by Carbonite, but it is just not recommended for your active data file, and it can cause damage.
Once you are in a file you can use, please follow the steps outlined in this Support Article for advanced data file troubleshooting. You can start on step three. Please note, once you are in the copy file, all connected accounts will need to be reconnected. If at any point you are unhappy with the results of the whole process, you can get back to the previous file by going to File and selecting the second file listed at the bottom of the menu choices.
Let us know how it goes.

I moved my "Quicken" directory to the default location and blocked Carbonite. Everything worked once. I was even able to import qfx files last night. This morning, everything is broken again. But this time I can tell you exactly what it's doing.
Any transaction for any account after about 7/2/2024 is "hidden". The rows are there, but they're displayed as blank rows. If I try to scroll through the blank rows using the slide bar on the right, it looks like the date for all those fields (in every account) is 0/0/1900. The balances for each account (I believe) are what they would be for around 7/2/2024.
I did NOT do the "Validate" steps again because I've tried it several times and it just makes everything worse than it is now.
What I would like to do is go back to any release before R65.15. I think I was on R64.35 before, but I'm only guessing based on the backups I have. I would also like to block checking for updates and stick to the version that works.
Is there any way to do this?

Removing R65.15 and installing R64.30 produces same result. close and re-open same day is fine. Next day the last 18 months of transactions are zeroed out. It's always the next day that the corruption takes place, which makes no sense since I'm still running R64.30.

Thank you for following up and providing additional insights.
I can understand not wanting to do the validation if you have had bad experiences with it in the past. However, I think copying and validating your file, as outlined in the article I provided, are your "best" options.
Other options include restoring a backup from before the issue happened, but you have done that many times, and the damage returns. Or starting a brand new file. Although starting a brand new file is not ideal, it is the safest option because you know you will be moving forward in a file that is not damaged.
Let me know what you decide.

Validating the file removed all entries for all account for the past 18 months.
Is there a way to export transactions for each account as csv files so I can at least preserve all the data I have in Quicken at this moment?

What I don't understand is why I can restore from my 11-30-2025 backup, update the transactions I've missed in the past two weeks, make a complete backup of it (while still in the same active Quicken session), close Quicken, wait for a few hours, open Quicken again, see the 18 months of transactions get corrupted, "restore" from the backup I just created, and NOT see anything get fixed.
I'm running the version of Quicken I was running prior to Dec 1st. I watch Quicken corrupt everything one account at a time.
looks like i'll be exporting everything to Excel.

I am having the same issue. Restoring from a prior backup is not a solution. Hopefully this defect gets escalated sooner than later!!

i gave up, exported each count separately to CSV's so I have historical record of my old data, and created a new database. it'll take me a long time to rebuild all the custom reports I had. but I couldn't find another option.

Hello All,
Thank you for adding to this discussion, though I am sorry to hear you are having this issue.
Please provide more information.
- How long has this issue been happening?
- After restoring a backup, does the issue return?
- Are you seeing accounts getting corrupted like the other user, or something else?
- Where is your data file located?
- Is your file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like OneDrive, Carbonite, or Dropbox?
I am sorry that we were unable correct the issues in your data file. I know that creating the new file wasn't ideal, but I think it will be well worth it if you no longer have to face these corruption issues. And it was the safest option to go with.
Thank you both!

Issue started around 12/3/2025.
Issue returns after two close and re-opens of Quicken. Sometimes returned on the next start post restore.
Data file is in default location in "My Documents" on local disk of my computer.
Blocked Carbonite from backing up the location but it didn't help.

Thank you for the follow-up,
To clarify, did the issue return in the new file you created, or the original file?
Thank you!

I have a backup from 11/30/2025 that I could restore to. Every time I restored that version, the issue would return the next ( or 2nd) time Quicken was started back up.
So far, the newly created file (adding accounts back by hand and starting over with new downloads) has behaved. It's apparent the categories in the new version are much different than the categories in my old file (which was created several years ago).

Thank you for the follow-up,
I'm glad to hear that it's working correctly in the new file!
