Version R65.17

Build 21.165.17

When downloading transactions the ending balance includes pending transactions. This throws off the total and requests a balance adjustment. It's annoying in general, but creates issue with restaurant transaction or anything to includes a tip; when the final transaction clears with the tip included total Quicken then demands another balance adjustment. Please advise. Thanks

"When downloading transactions the ending balance includes pending transactions."

Could you expand on this, please? With credit card Accounts you have several options when it comes to downloads.

You can elect to download pending transactions, or not. I assume you have made the election to download pending transactions?

You can elect to have downloaded transactions either immediately enter into the Register or be "held" in the Downloaded Transactions window beneath the Register so that you can review them before allowing them into the Register, or not. I assume you are having transactions flow directly into the Register?

You can elect to reconcile using paper statements or reconcile to the online balance. I assume you are reconciling to the online balance?

Now, as to the pending transactions that, apparently, are being allowed into the Register, I assume that they have transaction dates that are "correct" in the sense that their date is in fact the date that you made the charge? So, for example, if you ate out at a restaurant "yesterday" and paid with a credit card, then with "today's" download you see that transaction entered into the Register with "yesterday's" date?

If I've got all the above correct, then I'll admit I don't understand why pending transactions would enter the Register, I would think they would be held in the Pending Transactions window until they showed up in the credit card as processed transactions, but perhaps this is an effect of allowing automatic entry into the Register, maybe combined with the "Reconcile to online balance" option? (I don't allow automatic entry for any credit card and I reconcile to statements so I don't have anyway to test that theory.)

Again, if my assumptions are correct, the first thing I'd probably do is to turn off the Automatic Entry option. At the very least that should hold the downloads in the Downloaded Transactions window (and maybe the Pending Transactions window?) allowing you to only allow the charges that are finalized into the Register and, presumably, always having the current Balance be the same as the Online Balance.
