renamed payee report ?

New setup, imported two years of data.

SO far, I've manually caught 2 payees that were automatically renamed by quicken, for example "Domino Dreams" was renamed Domino's Pizza

Is there a way to see all the renames in a report, before and after? TO be clear, I'm talking about any rules I created (I have not made any).

Also, is there a way to mass revert renames I did not like. (Different Apple channels seem to all be "Apple"), making it hard to seperate recurring transactions from other types.

I'm not aware of any report that shows the "Downloaded Payee", but if you click the GEAR icon in the upper right corner of any account that downloads, you can click "Register Columns" and check "Downloaded Payee" which will cause that column to appear in your register.

Then, you can either eyeball engineer the register for the changes or Export the register report to Excel and do a comparison.

It sounds like the option at Edit > Preferences > Downloaded transactions > "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to Payee" is enabled. That does a pretty good job of standardizing the Payee names, but sometimes makes errors as you have seen. If you disable that option, then going forward you will get the raw Payee names, which are often messy, including store numbers for example.

To help clean up the misnamed Payees, you could enable the Downloaded Payee column as @NotACPA recommends, then click on the Payee header in the register to sort it by Payee. Then you can fix one Payee, copy it, and paste the correct one on the remaining ones, which will be nearby.

To control the renaming going forward you would use Renaming Rules. Also in the Renaming Rules setup, there is now an "Apply to existing transactions" option. I have not used this, but it may be helpful for your situation.

Always back up your data file before making bulk changes, in case the result is not what you expected. There is no Undo in Quicken.

I just exported the register to Excel after adding the Downloaded Payee and Downloaded Memo columns to the register and neither of those columns are present in the exported Excel report.

If also tried Print Transactions and the data in those columns does not show up there, either.

I agree that none of the default reports (that I am aware of) will or can include these 2 columns.

So, it does appear that printing out or exporting the register/transactions report to Excel and then doing an eyeball comparison to what is shown in the register when the Downloaded Payee column is present is perhaps the best (and only?) option to see what the differences are.

@Boatnmaniac Thanks for looking into that suggestion. Because of the storms my I'net has been sporadic (out entirely for prior 3 days) and I didn't take my usual time in checking out that suggestion before I made it.

I lived in the Austin, TX, area for 28 yrs until this past Aug. That's when we moved back to the Mpls/St Paul area to be closer to family. If we had not made this move we would have had to deal with >2" of ice. Up here all we had to deal with was about an inch of snow and a few days of -25 to -5 temps. Today was like a heat wave…got all the way up to +6 degrees! 😁

This sounds like it could be a new idea post to create some new report or a menu option to better manage payees. I think every user would welcome this. I clean up my payees every quarter which involves effort.

In another thread @Jim_Harman posted something that reminded me of another way you might be able to do the comparison between Payee and Downloaded Payee that I had completely forgotten about.

    1. In the Account Bar on the left click on the account you want to review.
    2. Then at the top of the Account Bar click on All Transactions.
    3. Click on the icon to the right of "Total" in the Total column header.
    4. Now you can select to show the Downloaded Payee column which will be added right next to the Payee column.
    5. If you wish to "declutter" that resulting view, unselect some of the other columns you don't really want or need to view at this time. And by unselecting some columns the remaining columns widths will expand….or you can click and drag the column dividers between the column headers to expand or contract the columns widths.
    6. At the top left you can type in a single common word. For example, type in "Dominos" and the transactions shown will be reduced to show only the payees with "Dominos" included in the name.
    7. Now you can change the Payee that is shown right in that view. BUT BE CAREFUL because you may get prompted to create a Renaming Rule and if you accept the Renaming Rule it will change not only the Payee but might also change the Downloaded Payee. So, yes, be sure to backup your data file, perhaps, periodically as you are making changes.

It's still a manual process but it seems to me to be a lot more "friendly" than what I'd suggested earlier.
