How to Handle Renamed Security that Keeps the Same Ticker Symbol

For years a Fidelity account held a security, "<corp name> SMALL CAP FUND RETAIL". Sometime after 12/31/24 the name changed to "<corp name> SMALL CAP RETAIL" but the ticker symbol remained unchanged. This was not an issue until the method of downloading Fidelity accounts was changed near the end of 2025 whereupon Quicken ADDED a new security for the new name of the existing security, an now reports to me that there is a mismatch in reported securities for the account. That is, Quicken shows 0 shares for the original named security and only the most recently added (by year-end dividend reinvestment) shares as the amount of holdings in the new name. NOTE: Quicken will not allow me to rename the old security to the new security name and merge the holdings, so how do I maintain the records of years of transactions under the old name and get the transactions under the new name merged into a single security that Quicken will recognize as a match to the Fidelity account holdings?

How does that work? IOW, how do I do that in Quicken? BTW, I noticed the two holdings, while having the same ticker show different CUSIPs. I do NOT have the exact date on which the name / CUSIP change took place, but I assume that would be necessary to create the "corporate acquisition" transaction.

So you now have two securities in Quicken - Small Cap Fund Retail and Small Cap Retail. I would:

Edit any transaction that use the Small Cap Retail name and change it to Small Cap Fund Retail..
In the Security List (Ctrl-y), delete the Small Cap Retail security.
Edit the security details for the remaining Small Cap Fund Retail security and uncheck the box that it is “Matched with online security”.
From the account transaction list, choose the action option to Reconcile Shares. That may offer you the opportunity to match securities or it may automatically identify the match.

After those steps you should find that your Small Cap Fund Retail security has the correct CUSIP. If you choose to, you could change the name to drop the ‘Fund’ (Security Details). Doing so would alter all those historical transactions to the newer name, but that is not really significant

I figured out how to do it, but I don't remember the exact way I did it. (probably should have written it down). I recall it involved multiple edits of securities from the "Holdings" screen/list for the account and at one point deletion of the one whose CUSIP was retired (or whatever its called when a rename keeps the ticker symbol but transfers holdings go a new CUSIP). I managed to do it and keep all the historical transactions without having to reenter them manually, so all ended up correct in the end. Again, I trial-and-errored my way to the solution.

Looking up the thread I think I used q-lurker's 6 Jan post as a basis but with some changes (I think mainly regarding step 1 - I think I found a way to rename without having to do each transaction - I don't recall, but I whatever I did it did not involve changing names on years of transactions.
