REAL Expense Reports - New Feature Request
FYI: This feature request applies to the Mac and Windows versions of Quicken Classic Business & Personal.
I am a very very long time Quicken customer. I just bought Quicken Classic Business & Personal and to my SHOCK it does not appear to have basic employee business expense report capability. I'm talking about the extremely common practice of capturing and submitting expense reports with detailed line items, which every company on the planet does. And capturing it in Quicken and then paying the expense report total. Basically the opposite of an invoice to customers - detailed line items of expenses and being able to assign expense categories to each line - then paying the total out. BASIC STUFF !!!! So how can I do this ?
BTW: I’ve searched your support site content and Quicken help and found nothing helpful.
=========
I contact Quick Support via chat and here is their response:
I'm checking and I was checking with the support team and it seems Quicken Classic for mac or windows does not include a true employee expense report module.
I'm afraid that This feature simply does not exist in Quicken Classic Business & Personal.

A few things just for your information…
(1) Quicken Mac and Windows development are completely separate. You posted this feature request in a Quicken Mac category; you should submit it separately in a Quicken Windows Product Ideas category if yoy want to see it in both products.
(2) Quicken Business and Personal is designed to serve individuals with a personal business, like contractors, consultants, rental property owners; it isn’t really designed to fit the needs of small businesses with multiple employees. So a feature like employee expense reports may go beyond the scope of the market Quicken is aiming to serve.
(3) That all said, it might help to give an example of what types of expenses you’re wanting to report on. If you enter a regular expense transaction in Quicken, you can mark it as billable and attach it to a Business and Client if it is something you will include on a client invoice. Otherwise, you could possibly use Tags on expense transactions so you can get a report based on the tag(s). And of course there is mileage tracking. So there are a number of ways to track expenses, and it would help to have examples of what types of expenses you’d want to track/report on.

@Kenneth Adams Quicken does not have a dedicated Employee business expense report capability and companies vary in their requirements for expense reporting, but here is how I would set things up using the current features in the Windows version.
Any edition Deluxe or up would work for this. The Business & Personal edition includes a mileage tracker, if you are tracking auto mileage.
- Set up a personal expense Category for reimbursable business expenses. If you were not fully reimbursed and will be filing IRS Form 2106 to claim a deduction, set up subcategories and give them the appropriate Form 2106 Tax line items.
- When you enter the expenses in Quicken, use splits as necessary to itemize the types of expenses. For example, on a hotel bill, you might have a split line for each line item in the bill with memos and/or Categories as above.
- To generate the report, use the report at Reports > Transactions. Set the date range to match the dates of the trip and select just the business expense Category(s). On the Display customization tab, select Show splits.
- For taxes. the Form 2106 items should appear in the Tax Schedule and Tax Summary reports, but I don't see that they feed the Tax Planner.
Does this meet your needs?

I think @jacobs meant consultants. I'm not aware of a lot of diplomatic missions using Q😀
