Download transactions from two credit cards to one account register

There are two of us who share a credit card account with Fidelity Investments. I have the primary and allow a family member to have a card as well, with me being responsible for the charges. Until recently, all transactions downloaded to the same Quicken register; and in fact both credit cards had the same number. Recently, Fidelity decided to issue separate credit cards, with separate credit card numbers, although the primary account holder remains responsible for the total balance. Now, the transactions on the second card do not download to the register. Is there a way to address this? The basic issue is that I want to continue to monitor all charges on the master account, which includes both cards, since at end of the billing cycle that's what I'm responsible for. Is this possible to do?

    Hi @Chris B ,

The problem is the other family member have Quicken file, for their use and a copy of the transactions as well? They might have downloaded the transactions, before you had downloaded them and therefore, either Quicken or Fidelity blocked duplicate transactions.

Not a solution, but that's what might have happened?

You hadn't mentioned if you are using 2 different Quicken files in you post. I also notice on my March statement Fidelity has created a new number for my wife's card however no transactions posted yet and no new card has been distributed so not sure about downloading those transactions yet but assume they will download into my existing Quicken register.

Capital One does the same thing for both the Quicksilver card and the Kohls card (different card numbers) and those download transactions of both cards into the same Quicken register.

As you are the primary cardholder, you are responsible for the overall account, both card numbers and paying the amount due so it seems to make sense they should be downloaded into a single Quicken account to optimize managing the account. If they downloaded into separate Quicken data files or accounts, it would make management much more difficult.

Thanks. Yes, this is for a single Quicken account with a Fidelity Visa on which I am the primary account holder. Until today, transactions on the Fidelity website for the second card were not being downloaded into the Quicken register for my primary card number (as was the case previously when the primary card and second card were the same account number). Today I downloaded and it seemed to download transactions for both. Maybe a fix was done? Will be monitoring this to see.

The deciding factors for Quicken to determine the information is for a given account are:

    1. Financial institution name.
    2. Login account at the financial institution.
    3. Account number

So, bottom line is that if the financial institution is sending the transaction information with a different account number Quicken has to treat it as a separate account. And there is no way in Quicken to have two or more accounts download into the same account.

Well, except, I have 2 AAdvantage credit cards from Chase, mine & wife's. They have different account numbers, yet when I log into Chase all of the transactions are shown in a single column … even though the monthly statement subtotals by card.

And when I download into Q using only my account number, transactions for both cards come in.

SO, I think that @Chris B's issue was a temporary glitch that's been resolved and not anything inherent in setup.

It is what they send to Quicken, not what they present on their website that counts. This has been talked about many times usually in reference to business accounts.

Bottom line is that it is dependent on what the financial institution is doing, and there is nothing in Quicken that will allow you to override it

This seems to be resolved and, as NotACPA suggested, it was either a temporary glitch or something that was identified and addressed. Although we now have two Visa cards with two different account numbers, and I can view them online at Fidelity with the transactions associated with each card, all the transactions from both are being downloaded to Quicken in the single account register associated with the primary Visa. That makes sense because I am billed by Fidelity each month for all cards I have authorized on the account in one single bill.
