Business & Personal for Mac - Invoicing Issues and Ideas

I've had a chance to try out the new invoicing feature for Quicken Classic Business & Personal for Mac, backfilling over two years of invoices for a couple customers. It's a solid start, but there are some rough edges. Notably:

Issues

  • The "QTY" column on the printed invoice PDF is truncated if the value is sufficiently large. For example, on a commissions-based invoice where "QTY" represents total sales, a value of 123,456.78 will appear on the PDF as "123,4…". This unfortunately limits the usefulness of the invoice from a customer standpoint

Ideas

  • Allow per-customer payment terms (e.g. Net 15, Net 30, Net 45, Net 60, Net 90) to default the invoice "Due Date" based on the "Invoice Date"
  • Better support for line breaks in the "Description" of invoice line items. Line breaks can be forced using Option-Return, but only one line is visible in the input field at a time
  • Allow re-ordering of invoice line items
  • Allow additional filtering of the invoice view by customer, type, and status
  • Send an invoice to the customer via email directly within Quicken

We appreciate the continued efforts to bring the Mac version closer to feature parity with the Windows version. Thank you!

I am going to have to start doing Invoices and how can you Beta Test/Try Out the new and upcoming version?

@checkyourmirrors The Invoicing feature is already released for the Mac, just update your subscription to the Business & Personal tier. If it turns out that the current Invoicing implementation is not meeting your needs you have 30 days to contact Customer Support for a refund.

  • I need to give a date for each service I provided the client. The current invoices do not include a column for adding the date of the service. I find this to be a particular and important missing feature. Together with the added fact I am unable to edit, remove or add columns to an invoice, the Quicken Classic Business for Mac falls very short of a desirable feature.

It appears there is no way to have recurring invoices, ie, automatically create a new invoice for each client on a monthly basis. This would be ideal for a business offering a subscription service or a tenant paying rent. Under Home it is possible to create recurring bills on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, annually) and set the date.

This would be a necessary feature in order to make regular, monthly invoicing useful vs manually creating new invoices every month.

    Hello All,

This Idea seems to have stalled, and we would like to gauge the current interest in this request.

    Thank you!

I just made some similar comments on another thread.

I also need the ability to have a date field for each invoiced item - ideally the field name could be changed to "week of" since I provide weekly detail of consulting activities.

The biggest pain point so far is the description field. I have to provide multi-line descriptions, but I can only see a single line of text at a time. It makes it very difficult to compose in the invoice interface and impossible to proof. I have to compose in a different program, then cut and paste. Thankfully this method does preserve line breaks.

After trying to send my first invoice adding the following issues:

Invoices don't seem to actually send - there is nothing saying they are sent in activity and no status change or tag to indicate they are sent. Confirmed with my client they didn't actually even get it (and not in SPAM)

Cannot add additional recipients - I need to send to the AP address for payment but also managers for projects worked on for their approval.

Cannot cc myself to ensure it went out - and couldn't find any way to see the message within Quicken with any sort of log to confirm.

Last two software systems I used auto added the invoice number and amount to the subject and email body - that would be a nice feature - or that the user could customize the email message with those variables included to auto-populate.

So far, I am definitely frustrated with a core functionality need for business accounting software.

@Quicken Kristina The status box for this request should be updated with some text to indicate some of the suggested changes have been implemented: customer payment terms now exist, line items can be re-ordered with drag-and-drop, and emailing invoices from within Quicken is now functional.

On the other hand, the fact that the Description field has still not been changed to expand to multiple lines onscreen is super-frustrating for any business owner who has invoices which need descriptions more than a few words. Long text prints correctly, yet it's impossible to see on screen. It's crazy that users need to compose the text in another program and then copy-and-paste it into Quicken, as @KLPickle mentions above. This is the sort of thing that seems like an easy common sense fix, so it is infuriating to have to go through the multi-year process of creating an Idea, gathering enough votes, and then waiting to rise up on the developers priority list.
