Quicken deluxe not allowing me to change files

I have been a Quicken user since the DOS days. I recently bought a new computer and couldn't find my original distribution CD, so I bought Quicken Classic. I got it installed and it was working great until I got a statement from my mutual fund, tried to enter the data, and Quicken Classic came back with, "This action requires Quicken Deluxe or above." So, I went to the web page and paid $51 for Quicken Deluxe. No change. It still says I'm running Quicken Classic. I checked my emails and didn't find a code or anything. Looks like I just blew $51 for NOTHING! What do I need to do to get this working?

    Hello @wa7jos,

I can see where the confusion happened here, so let me clarify what’s going on.

Quicken “Classic” refers to the desktop program you’ve been using (the one installed on your computer). Within that, there are different tiers like Starter, Deluxe, Premier, etc. Based on what you described, you do need Quicken Classic Deluxe to access those investment features.

However, the purchase you made on 4/14 was for Quicken Simplifi Business & Personal, which is a completely separate, web-based product—not an upgrade to your Quicken Classic program. That’s why your installed program is still showing as Starter and not Deluxe.

To get this resolved, I recommend contacting Quicken Support directly. They’ll be able to:

    • Help process a refund for the Simplifi subscription you purchased
    • Assist you in upgrading your current Quicken Classic Starter subscription to Quicken Classic Deluxe

Once that upgrade is applied, your desktop program should reflect the correct version and allow you to enter those transactions.

    Thank you!
