Make transaction matching work better

I don't get how Quicken can be so bad at matching transactions. I've downloaded a transaction for $95 with a payee of "Lc Trustage Life" on 11/19. You can't figure out that it matches a transaction I have in my register already for $95, with a payee of "Lc Trustage Life" for two days later, 11/21?!? If I click "Accept" it'll create a duplicate. Please don't be so dense, thx!

Agreed! Matching transactions works 'fair' at best…. I end up having to accept the transaction, then delete one with the least details. Needs Improvement.

From what I have seen, Quicken will match a downloaded banking transaction to a transaction in the register if the amounts are the same and the register transaction is between 15 days before and one day after the date of the date of the downloaded transaction.

This makes sense if you are writing and mailing checks, but maybe not for electronic payments. The matching works best if you enter the transaction with a date a few days before the transaction will download.

There is a separate problem with duplicate transactions being created and "matched" to existing transactions.

Before accepting the downloaded transaction as New, which will create a duplicate, do this:

    • Edit the already existing future-dated register transaction (the one dated 11/21) and set date to 11/19.
    • The status of the downloaded transaction should have changed from New to Match
    • Accept the downloaded transaction.
    • Consider changing the Scheduled Reminder, this and all future instances, to an earlier date, e.g., Monthly on the 19th, to avoid this from happening again.

Quicken won't match downloaded transactions to already existing, but future-dated register transactions.
