Old transactions are updating after one step update in only one account, need a mass deletion

At the end of 2025, I took the steps to get rid of an old accounting file that had multiple erroneous accounts and entries. I started a new accounting file according to instructions. One checking account gave me trouble. When I did the automatic update, I got years and years of transactions. I went through and deleted each of the old transactions, and everything has been running fine for the last couple of months. I don't know why, but suddenly yesterday, on the online update, the years and years of transactions have re-appeared. It appears to only be one account (of course, the account with the most activity!).

It has to be something that is coded differently on this account. Different accounts from the same bank do not have this problem. I tried to deactivate the online, then reactivate for future, but I got an error from the bank.

My questions:

#1 - What could be coded differently on this account that is causing the huge update?

#2 - Is there a way to mass delete about 7 years transactions?

#3 - Would it be better to somehow save the 6 or so months of transactions to a new account and delete the old account with the multiple years of transactions?

Thank you!

    Hello @kimly55,

Thank you for reporting the issues you are running into.

I have some follow-up questions for you:

    • How are you opening Quicken?
      • Are you using the application icon, a red square with a white Q in it?
      • Or are you using an icon that looks more like a red or white sheet of paper with one corner folded over?
        • This would be a data file icon, and if you are opening Quicken this way, this could be causing the issue.
    • Where is your data file located?
      • You can see this by going to File. The file you are currently in will be listed toward the bottom of the menu with a check mark next to it. The file pathway will be displayed there, and that is what we are looking for.
    • Is your file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like Dropbox, OneDrive, or Carbonite?

#1 - I am not sure, but hopefully we can get to the bottom of it together!

#2 - Yes, you can highlight the first transaction you want to delete by clicking on it once. Then scroll all the way to the last transaction, hold down the shift key on your keyboard, and click the last transaction once.

From there, you can right-click and select Delete, or use the gear icon on the far right of the transactions and select Delete. If you choose this method, you will want to make sure the Opening Balance transactions is correct, so your balance will be correct going forward.

#3 - This is another option. This option does have additional steps and could cause duplicates when reconnecting the account.

    Looking forward to your response!

    2. Before doing any mass changes, including mass deletions, always make a back up before starting the mass changes.

So I assume by "accounting file", you mean you created a new Quicken file.

    1. That doesn't matter. It isn't relevant to your problem.
    2. Yes, but how to do it depends on whether you are having the downloaded transactions added to your register automatically or whether they are in the pending state. You can configure Quicken to allow you to review transactions first before adding them to a register.
    3. Nope.

Thanks. You're right, I added a new quicken file. Upon further review, the second group of accounts from this bank also added many years worth, after the bank required a manual update.

    2. I'll find out how, and set it to do the review first.

    3. Dang.

    Quicken Alyssa -

I am opening by clicking the rounded red square with the white Q that is in my taskbar.

My datafile is located in C:\Users\**\Dropbox\Accounting\Young\Young26

I have another file in the Young folder, which is the older Quicken file, called Young 2022, last one I used, It included everything from inception to about December 2025. I had so many unused files and superfluous entries that I wanted to get a fresh start. Most went well on the transfer to the new file, except these two bank accounts. I think it has something to do with manual vs automatic updates.

Yes, I am using dropbox, as you can see from the data path. I also have a company that I have to access from my office, so I use dropbox to make it more portable. I do not use the mobile version, only the desktop.

    Thank you for your help!
