The ability to sort Payee reports alphabetically by Payee, rather than the default sort by most to least dollars spent would be most helpful.0
-
Very much like the ability to sort Payee reports by TAG.0

Yes, this is the same as Class from QM2007.Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

Would also like to see the same flexibility in QM2007 to use variable column headings (date, class/tag, whatever) for reports. If you just replicate the same reporting functionality and flexibility in QM2007, I'd fully convert. Its the only thing holding me back now. Recent improvements have been great! Thanks.0

Actually, having a report called Payee Summary that sorts on anything other than Payee is silly!1 -
Would like to sort transaction report by category.0
-
Damon, it depends what report you are using. And what version of Quicken Mac are you using?
In Quicken 2017, 2018 or 2019, see if you're doing this:- Reports > New Report
- Transaction Report
- Subtotal by Category
- Create Report
- Click Customize
- Set the date range you want for the report (e.g. this year, this month, etc.)
- Click on the Accounts and/or Category tabs, and click on the "Include only transactions from selected account/categories if you want to restrict your report to only certain Accounts or only certain Categories.
- In the resulting report, you can click on the Category heading twice to have it sort in alphabetical order by category (separately within Income and Expenses)

You can sort by category , but the big issue is that you can't sort that category by payee like you could in Q2007 Mac 12 years ago.1 -
egmacrae, actually, yes you can. It's easy...
Generate the transaction report by category (as described above). Then click the Payee heading to have it sort by Payee name in ascending alphabetical order within each category.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19930 -
But can you switch from Category to Payee as first sort like you can in QM2007? Or any of the other sorts?Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

With the current user interface for creating a report, no.
Category reports and Payee reports are separate: when you do New Report, you choose the primary type of report you want: Transaction, Summary, or Comparison. In this case, once you select Transaction, you must choose what the report is going to group/subtotal by: Category, Payee, Account, Tag or Time (date). Once it generates the initial report, you can change the date range and set any filters you want, and it will update the report. Then you can sort (really, it's the secondary sort) on any of the columns in your report. You can change those secondary sorts at any time on the fly, but if you want to go from a report by Payee to a report by Category, you have to create a separate report.
It's reasonably fast and easy once you get used to it, but I think some of this is a temporary user interface that will get more refined once they're done building out the new report engine.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19930 -
I surely hope so because to me this is extremely cumbersome... where you have to recreate whole criteria to refine just one report then wish to use it again as a base for others (not necessarily the same type) rather than starting all over... When you have hundreds and hundreds of categories and accounts then compound that with many dozens of reports, it gets onerous very fast.
I know I had an e-mail discussion with Marcus about this a couple of years back... hope this point got across.Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

Do you really have lots of reports that have the exact same criteria except you need to flip back and forth between seeing the data sorted by category and seeing the data sorted by payee? (Perhaps you do; I just have a hard time envisioning what sort of data I'd need to report on where this would be a significant issue. But it may be a limit of my imagination about what sort of records you're keeping, as you have many, many more categories and many more accounts than I do.)Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19930 -
Not all are exactly the same BUT some are... but in many cases it is FAR easier to start with report criteria and formatting that already exist and have been fine tuned that to start from scratch.Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

Oh and almost forgot other important reasons.... sometimes there is a need to flip between different report formats / sorts using the same criteria for analysis. And sometimes you start off creating a report with all the criteria and formatting only to realize another format would be better suited... I can go on...
Bottom line, this is functionality I use consistently. I am sure I am not alone.Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac
