Well I certainly hope that upgrading the feature-starved and very disappointing QM2017 to 2018 will not cost as much as buying QM2018 for the first time! QM2017 SAID it handles investments but there is so much missing.
I have QM2017, Version 4.5.8 (Build 45.17542.100) and it says it's the latest.

Version 4.5.8 is indeed the latest. Version 4.6 has started to be released, but they're releasing it slowly to make sure users aren't encountering problems with the conversion from IntuitID to QuickenID. But there are no new features in 4.6.

When a new annual release like Quicken 2018 comes out, there has not typically been an upgrade price. You may get a small discount from Quicken or find it cheaper on Amazon, but you do have to buy it again. However, with the release of Quicken 2018, Quicken is moving to annual subscription pricing, the details of which have not yet been announced. (It will probably be announced next month, if past patterns hold true.) It might cost a little less to purchase Quicken 2018 than it did Quicken 2017, but I wouldn't expect something like a small $10 or $20 update.

On the plus side, the product manager said earlier this year that improving investment functionality and improving reports are two of their top priorities for enhancements -- so hopefully there will be some improvements in both those areas in Quicken 2018. Do keep in mind that they've moved to an incremental develop-and-release model, so they don't always have blockbuster new features all at once; they release them incrementally as soon as they're ready. So what's in the first release of Quicken 2018 will be followed by more new features as the year goes on. (This is one of the principal reasons for the subscription model: remove the pressure to hold back big updates for each new model year, and instead be able to release new features whenever they're done.) Another hopeful sign for the future is that they've devoted a lot of time and effort to moving off Intuit's back-end servers, so once that project is complete, they should have more resources to push out user-facing improvements.

Another way to keep in mind is that though there has been mention of a focusing on reports, I would not expect a lot of change right up front. So any changes/updates to reports may not be that dramatic upfront, or at all. We'll have to see when it is released.

First, click on the underlined link above to go there, then click VOTE at the top of THAT page, so your will vote count for THIS feature and increase its visibility to the developers.

Of course, having these new reporting capabilities (supposedly) will require upgrading/purchasing/subscribing to a new Quicken Mac 2018.

However, if you create a software with glaring insufficiencies that are not the user's fault, you would expect those same users to again pay to correct those insufficiencies you've omitted or created?

The reporting capabilities in Quicken Mac 2017 are unusable.  I can't get ONE accurate income/expense or cash flow report in the product.

Is that my fault?  No, it's Quicken's fault.

BTW, not sure if you realize it but SUs are simply volunteer users that simply have a lot of experience and are willing to try to assist where and when they can. Many of us still feel the same pain of the shortcomings in Quicken.
