Matching a cleared check by number to a check in Quicken register

James W Sawyer

I enter a check in my Quicken by check number . When I download cleared transactions from CHASE to my quicken the check number downloads to my account but Quicken does not recognize the check number already in my register and merge the two. I did not have this issue with Quicken for Windows.

Based on a lot of feedback and personal experience, check # does not appear to be part of the matching criteria (if it is, it is very low on the matching priority)... even date has limited use in matching... the one thing that is 100% part of the criteria is amount.
That said, the matching criteria is a hidden mystery not documented anywhere nor ever revealed by Quicken, so ultimately it is a guessing game, and no one knows if they are the same for QWin and QMac or not. You may have just been luckier that others on QWin.
The one thing that will prevent a match is if a transaction has already been matched. So that would be one thing to check.Have Questions? Check out these FAQs (links now fixed):- Where to find a Help Guide for Quicken for Mac?

Is the check amount the same? Is the date the same? Is the check number which was downloaded different from what you entered manually (e.g. you enter "1234" and the bank download comes in as "0001234")?
What happens if you drag your manual entry over the downloaded entry? Does Quicken merge them?Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19931 -
